Just attended my first 'Church event' in over 40 years! Maybe two!

In spite of the fact that I consider myself Christian now, post exit of the Watchtower religion, I have not attended a single religious event or sermon inside a church since I was 5 years old [1960].

Today, we attended the Christmas play for my 5 year old G-daughter at the church where she attends pre-school. I was absolutely ecstatic with the program. It is a 'baby step' to my reindoctrination to orthodox Christianity I believe also. The program was opened and closed in prayer by a woman [talk about culture shock coming out of Jwism.]

Though my work prevents me from attendance at regular Sunday services - I believe I am now ready to begin attending some services on Wednesday evening in the area. I may attend tonight at the Methodist church down the road from me. They have a Wednesday eve Bible study program there. If I go, it will mark two attendances to a church in the same day, after a forty-one year absence.

I have spent some time online with Christian testimonials and sermons, but to set foot inside a brick and mortar church is absolutely new.

Jeff, I've been downloading R&B gospel. I just love it! I missed it so much! It makes me feel better when I'm down. I can have church at home.

    The Winans song "A Friend"

    A friend, a friend, a friend, a friend
    Friend of mine and yours
Out of all the love in the world
No one could love you more

    Verse:
Sometimes, there's no one to talk to
No one else I can find

    But He's always there
    He's everywhere
I'm talkin' bout a friend of mine

Problems seem like they never end
You have no one to turn to

But you can lean on Him
He'll never let you fall and
All you got to do is call Him
    He's just a friend

    Chorus:
    A friend, a friend, a friend, a friend
    Friend of mine and yours
Out of all the love in the world
No one could love you more

    Verse 2:
    It seems so crazy
You see times have changed and
People say they treat you so good

But then they smile in your face and
    They talk behind your back
They're not like the friends of old

But I found a friend who's love is true
It won't change no matter what happens
    .....He's gonna be right there
And you can depend on Him

    (chorus)

And if you ever need a friend
    He's always by your side

And He'll never, ever let you down
He's a friend of mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine
    Yes He is

    (chorus out)

Is there such a thing as an agnostic christian? I think I fit in that category. I'm like Tyler Perry's Madea. That woman tickles me cursing, carrying a gun, and trying to quote scriptures all the while!

First two responses, from two of my favorite posters too.

I am with you MrsMcDucket. I love the gospel music, even some of the newer stuff. At the church play they used some of that, and I loved it. My music collection is becoming heavily gospel. I love having Jesus in my life. What a change in feeling that is. Thanx for the song lyric.

Brilliant Jeff let us know how the Bible study goes tonight if you do go.

On the R & B gospel music - have you guys had a listen to Amy Grant or Mary, Mary? Pretty good.

If you want 'old' gospel songs and hymns in slightly contemporary style, Jars of Clay did a fab cd called 'Redemption Songs' (brill band anyway - I think they're quite big in the US?)

Don't worry. An event of that magnitude in the life of former witness. Oh yes, you will be informed. I think I will go tonight.

I am so happy! That is a big step. It was a huge part in my personal recovery process. I hope you enjoy it and are as pleasantly surprised as I was my first time.

Enjoy the open discussion tonight, Jeff.

I'm going to start getting ready in a few minutes for Bible Study and Wednesday night Prayer, myself.

Since it is Christmas week and some pastors deliver a message relating to Jesus, the newborn King, what Christmas really means for mankind, etc. you may not have a standard Bible Study tonight.

We are currently studying Revelation verse by verse (been at it since January 2005) but usually 2-3 weeks before and during a holiday week such as Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. we have special programs and messages that help us keep the Gospel about Jesus in focus.

After the holidays we start back where we left off in studying the Bible. However, NO Watchtower publications are required...-

God has provided something better for believers. John 14:16-18
