In "three days" (symbolic, not necc'y literal) he will be "raised" to become the new poster boy of the left, like Che before him.

Of course, that's only my opinion. It's not like I speak for the Universal Sovereign, our precious and beloved Flying Spaghetti Monster. Praise his noodly appendage!

I can't help but wonder what Saddam was thinking in his last few seconds.

    I hope I don't shit myself?

George should have been strung up beside him.

Bush: "Hey everyone, we got 'em!"

    The people: "Bin Laden?"

    Bush: "Well, um...no, but..."

The people: "So we can leave now?"

    Bush: "Well, um...no, but..."

I think he likes those big ol' buts.

I would like to say good riddance but unfortunately it's not the end of the problems in Iraq nor is it the end of the retaliation against the USofA but probably just the beginning. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Here here for the same crimes too.

I used to be pro-capital punishment. My reaction to this deed, even in the face of what is claimed the man did, makes me question it. Hanging and beheading is barbaric.

It's interesting you say that Ross. I was ever anti-c.p., even in my JW years (I still remember heated debates with elders when I was a teenager, over the ambiguous WT stance -- God granting the divine right of c.p. to... Satan's governments, lol). But especially when there is little doubt that someone "deserves it" does the apalling cowardice of law-and-order barbary stand out for what it really is -- not because it mightsimply be "unfair" in a particular case.

This so obviously has nothing to do with the heroism of resisting, or killing a tyrant while he is a tyrant.

Now maybe it's the best end Saddam himself could dream of. He's now immortal. His death will be remembered as a symbol long after the actual deeds of his life are forgotten.

Here's to "civilisation," "progress" and "democracy".

    Didier:
I was anti-c.p as a JW, but my opinions broadened especially while considering the Just War theory. It appears they are narrowing again, in the face of a real situation (surely the only true test of a belief or position?). If c.p. is ever to be pursued as a realistic method of punishment for heinous crimes then it should surely be the most humane method possible, such as lethal injection.

This so obviously has nothing to do with the heroism of resisting, or killing a tyrant while he is a tyrant.

This comment touched me, also. If it had been a death in combat then both sides could have claimed some honour in their own way. This kind of impotent slaying brings honour to noone.

LT, of the "hereditary Viking" class.

You're right LT. We shoulda just made him attend the Kingdumb Hall 5 times a week, and then go out in Service Saturday mornings for the next 20 years......that's a punishment worse than death.
