Death Count at the District Convention

Every year it seemed as if someone died because of the extreme heat at the four and five day
District Conventions. The reality of the matter was that it probably was more than one.

    Do You Recall?

Do you remember whether there was a moment of silence at either the District Convention
or back at the Kingdom Hall when a person died at the District Convention?

Did the attitude of “just box up the old bitty ” because the show must go on; the underlying attitude?

What do you recall when someone died at the District Convention?

    Respectfully,

I listened to a tape a few years back, that it was so hot that some baby's suffered heat stroke because of being exposed to too much sun and even one died. But, when suggested that something be said over the PA system about it in the way of a warning, it was nixed because the PA system was for program information only.

No WHY would anybody want to miss out on life giving words of truth for the sake of a minutes silence??

last year a sister collapsed during the public Talk. I thought this might be an appropraite time to offer up a spontaneous prayer on her behalf. BUT NO!!! The speaker carried on for another 35 minutes to the bitter end, whilst the paramedics were giving her oxygen and injections in the center aisle in full view of everybody.

    That's terrible!

Are any of the Florida Watchtower business sales meetings conventinons held in air conditioned facilities now?

Or do they still make it dangerously hot for those who attend by having them sit outdoors? That's very irresponsible, but predictable on the part of WBT$.

Florida here, and never remember hearing about anybody dying at any of the assemblies or conventions... and we always went to A/C places in those years (1980-1990) - Jax. Coliseum, Jai Alai's (before they built their own assembly halls), St. Pete Bayfront (which was a pretty beat up place but it did have A/C), and once to the Tampa Dome, etc.

As for that lady that was collapsed with the paramedics working on her, and the stupid speaker keeps on lecturing??? Or that baby and the heat stroke? Grrrrr. That is sooooo cruel. I mean would there EVER be a BETTER time to pray than a time like that? NO. What a horrible example those men are, what heartless shepherds! They should have had the entire assembly say a prayer together. Totally sick how JWs don't pray for each other (more the org's fault and how they're taught, etc.).

I guess I've had it lucky....all the DCs I've ever been to were in an air-conditioned concert auditorium....

Everything but my DC is held in a modern theatre located next to a beautiful marina

Last summer there were two people that collapsed at the DC in my city. One elderly man had a heart attack during the drama, another woman was reported to have a heart attack the day before. During both the assembly program did not stop as they were working on the people and when the paramedics were carrying them out. Thankfully both people did survive (the elderly man was reported to have died but I heard later from my mother in law that he didn't).

I wonder what the paramedics thought when everything just went on like normal?

I went to a few assemblies in Hallendale Park, Florida (a racetrack) back in the 70's. There was no air conditioning. IT WAS HOT. I remember paramedics being around, but did not inquire as to what was going on. I'm sure it was heat related.
