Death Count at the District Convention

my youth full memories are as much about cold and rain as heat - people shivering under umbrellas.

BTW the JW mindset is not to pray for the physical recovery of a sick person. It raises too many issues such as "Are we asking God for a miracle?" "Would God really intervene?" Rather if they know of a sick individual they may pray for their having strength to endure and for support of the family, but never for a cure (publicly anyway)

    Here is one interesting tidbit:

"Cibalo D. Fagans, 64, a retired teacher's aide, died July 11, 1996, while attending an international convention of Jehovah's Witnesses in Prague" (Buffalo News, 24 July 1996, p. 13B).

Here is a report of that convention:

    *** g97 3/8 p. 23 Messengers of Peace in Eastern Europe ***

Even though heavy rain fell on Friday at Prague, families sat outdoors in the stadium, taking in the spiritual food delivered by local and foreign speakers.

I wonder what the cause of death was for Fagans?

    AKJ-

The Sister collapsed at the Kingdumb Hell - that is why I was so disgusted. After all people collapse at football matches and basketball all the time. In a huge stadium, the speakers cannot see everything that is going on.

Hamsterbait, that is the sickest story I've seen lately. What nerve to continue on with the talk! Didn't it occur to them to cancel the meeting due to the circumstances? Apparently not!

OUTLAW, now I see why the memorial partakers stay around the 8,000 mark. I just wonder how they get Lloyd Barry's stuffed body to chew and drink.

This doesn't qualify as death: there is a sister in our circuit who is medicated with psycotropics. She has a tendency

to "fall out"-- feign blacking out--- to get attention. On the Friday of our District Convention last year she "fell out." Only thing was

she really did pass out. No facilities on the ground floor for the public. She was dehydrated and taking these powerful meds.

Anyway, on Sunday, she's back and she sits in the front center row to watch the drama. One of the attendants on a mission from Administration

"escorts" her from her seat to first aid. Her words: " I'm going to kill that expletive------the brother's name----- when I see him!" She knew who had

ordered her removed so she wouldn't disrupt the drama!

One of the very first witnesses in Hobart, Tasmania (the little island at the bottom of Australia from where Geoff Jackson comes) and a powerful woman, suffered heat stroke at a DC. I think it was the 1972 one. It cause her to become crippled and she ended up in a wheel chair unable to speak. She remained alive in that state for about 10 more years.

When it was rumored/stated that someone died at an assembly or meeting (I was a child) I was told it was fortunate for them to die there as surely they were pleasing to j by just being there and were now in line for resurection for sure. How much better than at some other time/place??!!!!!

Never was there expressed any sympathy for family or friends only reasurrance of a resurection. Ick! just writing that makes me ill!

growing up as a dub in the 70's there were so many old farts in the org and I grew to dislike all of them , in and around the circuit, many were plain nasty, alot stank as well but my old man loved em, but during the years of the summer D/C at Twickenham over the years many seemed to pass out and I'm sure some died (hee hee)

Having to go to Dodger Stadium for the outside, in the summer conventions was pretty miserable. We had a few at the Race Track, which was better in the sense that the sun set behind the bleachers. If anyone here was there, did you count the planes flying overhead getting ready to land at LAX.

The last convention at Dodger was going to be it for me. It was so miserable. Hot, humid, no breeze...the STENCH from the massive amount of humanity coming from the restrooms, (long lines there), forever fights for seats in the shade...UGH. I think at the last one there was some announcement to be extra careful about gangs etc. I said..."that's it. Gotta go somewhere/anywhere else." The next year the conventions moved to Long Beach.

I think back, and it was so much just a part of JW life. But it seems crazy. And working in food service in the outdoor tents in the summer with 100 degree weather...it was fun, but crazy.

I knew an elderly sister, who was so ill coming up to Convention Time, she prayed that Jehovah would make her (Methodist) husband stop her going. He didn't. ( HUbby)

She was rushed to hospital, having a heart attack. Her close friend of forty years was scarred by her screams in the ER of "Oh Jehovah let me live don't let me ***** die, don't let me die!!!"
