Rap music is music. Period.
Some is good, and some sucks, just like other genres.
If someone has more music experience than me, then I'll argue with them.
Otherwise, it's not really up for debate. (hehe) -

What do you mean by "musical experience"?

There is plenty of very intelligent 'Rap' (most informed musicians know it as Hip-Hop)
Sixsixsixtynine
Rap and Hip Hop are NOT the same thing!
By the way, i'm a musician and a very well informed one at that.

Please tell us what your music 'experience' actually is, and then we can talk.
As for your other comment please prove your assertion that 'rap' fits the definition of music.

Rap sounds like music to me. Is that good enough? I may not like all of it, but I'd say it's music. I don't like all rock music. Does that mean it's not music? There's a lot of songs that I don't like. Does that mean it's not music because I don't like it?

MsMcDucket,
Your definition quoted from Wikepedia is discussing chants from the Middle Ages, such as Gregorien chant. These chants form the basis of modern Western music.
Are you suggesting that Rap is comparable to the Gregorian chant? If so, you are missing the boat. Look at Gregorien notation, compare it to Rap and you will see at its most fundamental level they have little in common.
Look more closely at the page embedded by Avishai and you will see a much more realistic comparison.

I didn't miss the boat, I never took one. I was born in America. Yes, I'm suggesting that Gregorian chanting and rap are comparable. You say not so. I say that's your call, not mine.

So, in the few minutes it took to reply to my post you have compared the musical notation between Gregorien Chant and Rap?
Opinions without facts are like Emperors without clothes in such discussions. The facts are on my side of the issue not yours.
Rap sounds like music to me.
See what I mean?
