I can't see them going back to the mail order buisness . That didn't work for them once the government decided to tax them . The real estate game is more important to them I think , they can get the entire congregation to pay for the mortgage on properties then hand the deed to the book publishing corporation .

Oh my lord....what a odd banking system you Americans must have.
Here in Canada we have Interact. When I go to Walmart and buy my stuff I just walk up to the counter, swipe my bank card, enter my PIN number and 5-10 seconds later the money goes right from my account into Walmart's account. It doesn't involve the web at all. It's just electronic transfer.
Having said that you can bank online and make payments thru your bank's website so yes you could go online and make a payment to the WTS assuming they were registered with the bank. At least that's how it works here in Canada with only 5 big banks but any sort of point of sale transaction or pre-authorized payment doesn't involve the web.
Having said all that I must admit we don't have check cards yet like you guys do so i suppose it's 6 of one and 1/2 a dozen of the other. We do use plastic more than you do though.
Here in Canada the WTS could always install Interact machines in each KH, walk up, swipe your card, enter your PIN number, key in the ammount you wish to donate and boom you get approval and the machine prints your reciept.

If they charge MORE for the service of having it mailed, then they can afford the cost of the tax-figure it into the cost-like the stores who say "No TAX SUNDAY" or whatever during a promotion. They are still paying the tax, but the cost is wrapped up in the price they are paying. Its no extra discount in reality. I could see them going back to a pay to play way of doing things.
