If I knew who it belonged to, I would give it back, but I would also expect something in return.

I can see Jh on the phone now...."I found your wallet, and noticed there is an extreme amount of money in it.......whats the reward?" "There isnt one" CLICK!

I found some cash, no ID once. I did give it to the police; it would be mine if no one identified it (amount, type of bills, where found, etc.). After their standard holding period, I got the money. I would feel bad if it had been me who had lost the money. Would still do it today.

Lets say you go throught the bank drive through, and cash a check. They give you an extra hundred bucks.........Would you tell them?

In that situation, I would go back and tell them. Partly because it's a lot of money missing that might get the teller in trouble, partly becuase they might can trace it back to me and go ahead and deduct the amount from my account, somehow.

In smaller things, like too much change at a fast food joint or the supermarket forgot to ring up an item, I usually don't say anything. The amount usually isn't worth the trouble. With these new-fangle computer registers, sometimes it's a pain in the ass to get a cashier to do anthing than what they're programmed to do. They have to call over a manager to fix the problem. Just keep the line moving is my motto...unless of course they're screwing me out of money

I got a beer at a bar while waiting on friends to arrive for lunch the other day. Gave the bartender a 10..she gave me my change folded and I left a dollar on the bar for a tip. Didn't even look at the rest of the change. Got home and empied my pockets and had $15 instead of what should have been $4 or $5. Think I'm driving back there to give them $10? Hell no.

I found a wallet lying in a parking lot many years ago, and turned it in at the customer service desk; I assume it was reclaimed. That kind of honesty is easy, yet it's the kind the JWs trumpet about because they believe it makes them so different from everybody else. Being honest with oneself is much more difficult, and this kind of honesty the JWs don't want you to have. "Integrity," indeed. They don't know the meaning of the word.

    Interesting.

Most of the comments sound alike.

I find it very gratifying that the majority of persons on this forum are of the same mind on important ethics and morals.

We are a nice bunch of people if I may say so. Maybe a bit above average.

Lets say you go throught the bank drive through, and cash a check. They give you an extra hundred bucks.........Would you tell them? (i have to admit, I didnt, and felt guilty)

Ya, probably. Not because I give a damn about the banks, but because I know that the tellers are treated like garbage.

If you found a wallet with alot of money in it, would you keep it? (I wouldnt, cuz I know how much I would appreciate it if someone returned mine)

Ooooh this was tempting. I was inside at the convenience store paying for my gas and on the counter, half out of site was a wallet. I could see that it was stacked full of money and yes, I was very tempted to take it. Then I remembered one time when I lost my purse after just cashing my paycheque. Someone found it, phoned me and returned it. So I thought I'd better do the same and gave it to the store clerk. The security camera was an incentive not to take it too.

How about just a plain envelope, or bag of money with no name? Would you turn it into the police? (still pondering over that one)

I refuse to answer this on the grounds that I might incriminate myself.

So...have you ever found something? Money or anything of value and kept it?

Not sure if this fits, but last Christmas I was buying a bottle of wine at the Liquor Store. The guy behind the counter started talking up a storm to me and put my bottle in the bag as I was paying by debit. After I got home I was putting the wine away and pulled out a bottle of whiskey that he had inadvertently put in my bag. I guess I should've taken it back, but it was a 20 minute drive and I didn't feel like it. I hate whiskey though, so I gave it to one of my co-workers instead. Does that make me like Robin Hood?

have found $$$ twice in wallet and in a wallet inside a purse. Also found bank bag in the orient returned all three to proper authorities. The only thing I don't do, is when I find money loose and free, that is blown about by the wind, laying on the ground etc. That i will keep. The purse that I found had over $900.00 in it and cashiers checks unsigned for over $5000.00 didn't even get a thankyou from person who was reporting it lost when i arrived at police station on base to turn it in. Thats how life goes sometimes.

    I worked in a bank...

Tellers usually keep track of who gets what.(Bills) They have ways to find out where their shortage is.They also have lots of cameras..

If you aren't contacted in a few days you are OK.the teller will just eat the shortage..they don't usually fire them that easily..but if they can show it was you they WILL deduct it from your account.

They also have cameras inside their ATMs..they can see who the next person was after that guy said he didn't get his money...and you would have received a call..

I remember someone loading the ATMs wrong one time (The manager) she put the 20's in the 10's slot and boy people were withdrawing right and left!..Of course we were able to get the money back by debiting their account or calling them.

My favorite crook was the one that would have an EMPTY envelope and make a fake deposit ( say $600.) with it to an account with maybe only $1. in it..then ask for a few hundred back. The machine would let them do that because they legally would have to have so much of the deposit made available right away. Of course their account would be debited the next day and taken into the negative and they would lose their ATM rights for at least a year

Honesty pays in the long run..darn it!

I found $700.00 on the ground at an airport. I waited to see if someone with a look of anxiety on their face would return to the area searching all around. A few minutes later a cab driver pulled up and was looking all around on the ground. I approached him and asked him what was the matter. He said that he lost his money and thinks it may have fell out of his pocket when he was making change for a fare he brought to the airport. I asked him how much did he lose, and he said $700.00.I told him I had found that exact amount. He started crying, I gave him the money, he offered me $100.00 and I refused to take it. I was a jw at the time, and Jehovah was watching me. Today, I might just keep on walking with the money,I don't know.
