I am considered "apostate" by one tenth of one percent of the earth's population. Out of every thousand people, there is one who looks down on me because I won't believe the mindless rantings of the watchtower cult.

    NOUN:

One who has abandoned one's religious faith, a political party, one's principles, or a cause.

I am an apostate in the sense that I did abandon my religious faith.

I'm pretty sure a regular Witness would recoil if they knew my private thoughts, and I've been accused of "apostate thinking" by my JW husband, but by any definition, I am not. I'm a regular Christian who studied the Witness beliefs and rejected them.

It's natural to feel this pull towards the religion. I recommend finding the book "Combatting Cult Mind Control" by Steve Hassan. He explains why cult members feel this pull even though they may just be going through the motions.

    Nice to see you here.

Hi KCM and welcome to the board.

I would say that an apostate is one that actively tries to turn one away from what they believe. I certainly don't do that but I also don't believe the JW teachings anymore, despite being brought up in the 'troof' and not disfellowshipped until in my forties.

I do wish I had never ever got into this religion as now none of my family talk to me, which is as much their loss as mine.

I notice that you may be from Kent. I spent some very happy years growing up in Kent. If you wish to PM me and discuss anything please feel free.

    Welcome and good luck!

    KCM, welcome to JWD!!!

I'm not sure what I think about the word apostate.

On the blood issue I found peace after reading here about the Jewish interpretation.
The Jews today do not eat blood of any kind. They understand that those Mosaic prohibitions were dietary along with other dietary laws. They also understand that the Law was made for the benefit of man, not man for the law's benefit. Human life is very sacred and precious and law should never come before the saving of human life.

This would explain David and his men eating the showbread of the temple, an offense worthy of death. But David was the anointed of Jehovah and had a destiny to fulfill. His death from starvation in order to please the law did not make sense. Jesus too picked grain on the Sabbath for the same reason. Sacred life was involved. Jesus came to the same understanding of the scriptures. The Law is for man, not man for the Law.
People are not to be sacrificed to please the Law.

Anyway, when I heard that explanation a light bulb went on in my mind! I felt that was the true and beautiful understanding that both Christ and David had of the scriptures. The Watchtower on the other hand teaches that people must die if need be to keep the Law whether it be about blood or being a part of the govt. or preaching irritating religious dogma on the doorsteps of the world.

    Hello KCM, Welcome!
Yeah, I'm apostate! JWs, including my parents, are afraid to talk to me just in case their faith is damaged or destroyed. But
I've never been happier! At last I can express my opinions on things and hear what others have to say. I feel free and open minded. I can be the real ME.

You have friends here! Stick around.

You may not be completely loyal to WT teachings, but it doesn't mean you are disloyal to Jesus and his commandment to love God and to love your neighbors as yourself. Really, as long as you don't break those commandments, who can criticize you? And even if you do break them, there is such a thing as God's grace and it's for everyone and is free. Relax, your feelings are normal. With the passing of time, you will feel much better.

FHN has it right - in fact by this definition (following Jesus's teachings about love) the WTS are the ones that are apostate

No I'm not an apostate I'm an Atheist and darn proud of it. Too many years being a JW......wasted years to a dis-loyal organization, I feel so free now.

I'm grateful for JWD and other sites that put the research out here on the Internet so I could read and form my own beliefs about the whole Bible/God issue and now I'm done with it and I feel at peace with myself.

Welcome to JWD KCM do your research and don't let anyone label you, you are who you are and that is an intelligent being capable of choosing your own beliefs and destiny.

    Enjoy the journey!
