The dictionary definition of apostate is someone who has abandoned a previously-held belief, usually religious though it can be something else, like political.

That makes over 60% of the congregation I used to belong to apoatate, as so many of them had come to the watchtower from other religions, a fact I have on occasion pointed out to them.

While I agree with dedpoet, virtually all of JW's are apostates to start with, and their definition brands us as apostates-
I am not satisfied with leaving it at that.

SO- I have decided that I have not abandoned a previously-held belief. The belief was lacking information, the information
was supplied, the belief changed. Just like "new light." If I didn't just "abandon" my beliefs (a former JW really can't just
abandon them, they are like embedded tumors) then I am not an "apostate" by their definition.

Does this mean anything? NO. I know what they would think of me, if they knew what I thought. It just goes to show you
    that the label is meaningless.

My dedication was to God. I never left God and Christ, they did!

    • 1:1000 of the population disagree with me
    • 1:3 of the world's population agree with me

    Go figure

  • LOL! I know you are having fun with us Ross.....

I had a lifelong friend tell another friend of mine who left the JW's --

"Again I reiterate; 6 million+ are wrong & you & yours have the truth? highly presumptuous."

An example of statistics being used to draw an erroneous conclusion.

From their viewpoint, I am. But that's their trip and their label. They can call me what they want, i don't care.

I'm just me and i like me.

FHN has it right - in fact by this definition (following Jesus's teachings about love) the WTS are the ones that are apostate

Yes, though there are some kind, loving individual witnesses, the governing body allows and even encourages a climate of worship that resembles that of the Pharisees more than Jesus' command to love. We all know what Jesus said to the Pharisees. I would not want to be a Pharisee.

    Mavie:
I'm not sure if you got my point, but I'll elaborate nonetheless

Its been estimated that there are the following approximate numbers in this world of:

    • 6 Million JWs
    • 2 Billion Christians (nominal and otherwise)
    • 6 Billion humans (homo sapein sapien ansd otherwise )

Hence my rations of 1:1000, and 1:3 accordingly. They seem to be a little better than the 1:6,000,000,000 if it were just my opinion vs the WTS, eh?

    LittleToe, thanks for elaborating.

I suspected your ratio of 1:3 referred to the number of Christians in the world and the total population of the planet. I'm also assuming you are making a funny about your belief in Christianity. "Hey! One-third of the planet agrees with me!" I was trying to demonstrate that corelating a high percentage of adherants means that belief has the ultimate truth about god is erroneous.

I know we are just having fun here.

Oh yes. I love being an apostate to the teachings of the Witchtrowel Babel and Trash Sucksiety. I wear my big red "A" badge with pride. I like telling the JWs that come to my door that I am one just to watch the expressions on their faces LOL!

Theyre like "What do you MEAN you dont believe we have the TRUTH??? It it it...it SAYS so right in our magazines! Seeee?? I mean it SAYS so and and and....well...so I will just come and live in YOUR HOUSE when YOU are killed at Armageddon for NOT accepting what I tell you and embracing a Bible STudy with me you you you....APOSTATE!!"

    hehehe

As for you still feeling loyalty....my sister in law is still my sister in law even tho she's a ho and a drunk. Doesnt mean I have to agree with her way of life just because Ive known her for 24 years.

You should know that anyone deviating from the teachings of the FDS ie the GB is an apostate so you are an apostate to them and they are apostate to the Biblical teachings so it's fine not being part of them. I am an apostate to the JW belief system.
