If it was standard practice for them to acknowlege their mistakes and apologise for them, then they would have a measure of my respect. At this point, after all of the previous evasive maneuvers and sidestepping from responsibility, no ammount of apology would regain my respect.

Maybe this is not a fair comparison but if a person guilty of war crimes said they are sorry would millions of dead people walk out of their graves as a result? The answer is no. Their apology would mean nothing. Likewise, I would feel the same if the WT ever gave an apology. It would mean nothing to me because people have died over the years as a result of certain policies (blood, etc.).

As far as forgiveness goes, Rich, I don't know if you remember but the WT had some articles on forgiveness in maybe the early '90s. They were very good in that they clarified just what forgiveness actually means. It means that the person who is wronged lets go of the anger. It also means the abuser has to stop doing whatever it is they are doing wrong. It does NOT mean that the abuser is once again welcomed as a friend. This is the important point. It may not be possible to be this person's friend again or take them into close association. These articles were a relief to some people there who actually believed they had to keep being abused over and over again by the same people. And it also straightened out some deluded people who thought they could be perpetrating something on somebody there time and again and expect to be forgiven like it was the other persons problem.

Unfortunately, old ideas die hard and there are some there who probably still think they can do anything and be forgiven as long as they are doing their fs, meetings, prayer, etc. I don't want to digress from your point but I would have to say my feelings would not change for the better.

As they require a repentant soul to show works, I would not expect less than that from them. ....

Now, let's see......

First that apology. Of course, that has to be in writing.......And Wanderer you are right, it takes courage to do a thing like the WWCG has done. But although this step may have been done as a body, like a church is, it were several induviduals who actually dunnit.

Second, What would they actually apologize for? For all the mistakes and wrongs committed? Would they recant all the BS that has been driveling from their presses? forsaking all the manmade rules and regulation and intepretations?

Third: the works: How would they make ammend to show the faithfulness of they repentance? There is an example of a man who did just that: (Luke 19:1-10) “19

3 Well, he was seeking to see who this Jesus was, but he could not for the crowd, because he was small in size.

It could happen and then hardliners could get back in power and purge the 'apostates' like they did once already in 1980 with Ray Franz The Watchtower is all about making money,if they default their stock plumments.

The watchtower racket is to me what Enron is to their pensioners I lost my investment too.

A sincere apology for misleading people into believing that they are God's representative
would be a welcome sign that the Governing Body was captive to the same concepts
that they used to hold everyone else prisoners. I could see it happen when the religion
is ready to close, and the leaders see it as the only truth that would keep the remaining
rank and file from sueing their asses off.

I recall the church of God doing this and it lost nearly 50% of its membership.

WTS would lose huge numbers.

LOL Longhairgal . They know how to instruct others but still don't owe any apologies to anybody , after all it's not their fault God picked imperfect humans to run his buisness . That's all you'll get out them too . Here's some new light except it or leave and we know we are imperfect but we have a free pass from humility . I would say a huge apology is in order for the UN NGO scandal alone .

Wanderer, The Watchtower has never made a mistake. It has calculated, deliberately planned with full intent every move, every doctrine, it has made. They have caused untold suffering, pain, physical and emotional. They have murdered with their no blood doctrine. They have covered over child abuse, caused suicide to emotionaly disraught ones. Torn apart famlies, stole from it's slaves, stole our youth, our strength, our retirement, our future, our lives. The apology would never be real, it would be forced to 'cya' as the saying goes, to escape punishment, to soothe their own conscience as if all the damage that they caused could be forgotten and forgiven.

Even if they financially made restitution, it would not be enough. Severe punishment, throw the book at them, as the saying goes, would not be enough. They need to be shut down by law legally. the money confiscated, taxes payed and the rest distributed by law to all who ever slaved without payment, all the abused children, those who died because of the no blood doctrine etc. Realistically, I don't see this ever happening.

With all due respect to your question, I would not ever accept an apology from The Watchtower. In times past they never made an apology and always put the blame on the rank and file. They got 33 years of my life, the best years of my life. Now at 62 years of age, there is no pension, no 401k plan, no retirement for me and millions of others. However, that is the least of it, others have lost much, much more than I have, namely, families and lives. It's only when you and yours ( not you personally ) have experienced some or all of what I have wrote here personally, it is only then that the pain of heart is still within you. Apologies, never!

If they were to apologize they might as well turn out the lights and close up. To apologize would admit that men and not God had been running things for the last 140 years. So it would never happen.

However I would like them to apologize for the sake of those still in. It may remove the scales from their eyes for a moment. But most likely it would be some ambiguous half assed apology anyway.
