    Marie (((((((()))))))),

If more people were like you the world would be a far better place! Not only are you lovely in looks, but lovely in nature, too!

Whenever you are called up to donate stem cells I very much hope you will resurrect this thread so that you can explain the procedure. Some people are afraid, I think, that they will be subjected to pain or enormous needles. We need someone with experience to post.

Just think, a simple procedure could literally save untold numbers of lives. THAT'S got to be worth doing!!

    Love,

    Ian

I will most definitely do that Ian. Giving blood is easy, and stem cell donation from blood is apparently very similar, but you have to have 4 days of injections beforehand to increase the number of stem cells in your blood. Bone marrow donation is a little more complicated, I know you have to stay in hospital for a couple of days. Not much to ask if it will save a life though.

    Dear ALL,

I was at the hospital on Friday and had around an hour-long talk with a doctor. There are two potential matched donors for me - both from Germany! I am now to wait a few weeks so that tissue typing can be actually verified. I was informed that the hospital would like to admit me as soon as possible to start the procedure once a good match is definitely made from one of the two German potentials.

It looks like I could be admitted in June, so I intend to make the most of the time left until then.

Thank you to EVERYONE who offered to help me. Please, please, please do carry on volunteering to be a stem cell donor as the procedure is simple and yet so absolutely life-saving. Don't just think of me, young children are dying and YOU could literally be their life-saver! Donate your stem cells at the earliest opportunity. If the Germans aren't a match I may even have to depend on YOU myself!

    Love,

    Ian

Ian, sorry but I have just noticed your message. Unfortunately, on the German board there is also someone needing a stem cell donor. I have discussed this within the company I work for and we are going to have an opportunity for the staff to get a registration in the central donor database within some months. However, it is good to see that you seem to have already found someone. Please take my best wishes.

    That's absolutely wonderful!!

And for everyone else who is considering being a donor, of any description, you are doing a fantastic service to your fellow man!

You really are a special group of people!

I am unashamedly bringing this post back to the top

This week I had tests on my heart and kidneys to see if they are strong enough to take the treatment. I am still awaiting the results. I feel great, but the scans and blood tests will obviously give deeper information.

All being well, I should be embarking on stem cell treatment soon. Stem cell donations are needed urgently. YOU could save my life or someone else's. I think that's worth it!!

    Love,

    Ian
