Anyhow, that's (mostly) beside the point. The point is that the shooter would never have been able to get a CCW permit because, for one thing, he was not a US citizen, nor, therefore, a resident of Virginia.

citizen or not......permit or not........the point is......people are dead.

Purps, you are right on that. It is a very sad day for these families indeed. And fact is, if someone is going to loose it like that they will take others out however they want. Look he could have done it just as easy with Kool-aide, Tylenol and all the other things people try to slip in, a bomb, many bombs. It is not about guns I would think, as it is about how do we spot people on the edge like he was, and what can be done to perhaps catch a person like that before he/she looses it.

It was upsetting because my daughter told me as we watched this yesterday that she makes sure she is always nice to the kids at the highschool that seem out there, or that make rash comments about killin. (I guess this happens a lot) Something to the same thought I have at work. Bring extra Snickers Bars my best friend said and make sure that you include the strange person in the building. You never know when that extra bit of kindness just might help ya later when they decide to go nutso. Truly tho' I am not so sure that when a person crosses that line, that they can remember anything kind done to, with or for them. Then perhaps they would not have crossed it.

It is a terrible thing Purps. Truly sad and I see how you hurt for these families.

Interesting that people around this guy did notice that he was a loner and seemed to have mental issues. His own writing teacher referred him to the school counselor!!! I don't think we are educated enough on mental issues and how to properly address it when we do see it. The main thing that I see going on is that PARENTS are not in touch enough with their children to know what they are doing!!! Are both parents working long hours taking it's toll on our children's mental health? Do we need to re-think our materialistic society?

Do we need to re-think our materialistic society?

Interesting points SWALKER. I think we need to re-think the way we interact with other human beings.

We can re-think all day everyday, but if the lobbyists can't find a way it benefits them it ain't gonna happen.

BA- Waits for some "feel good" legislation to get passed, that won't accomplish anything.

PS- It is the pressures of modern day america, coupled with alienation, and unwillingness to seek help, that cause people to snap, methinks.
