    Good for you, Crumpet!

If you want to register as a bone marrow donor too, mention it before they start taking your donation so they can take an extra sample vial.

Have you already had your tattoo done? How long do you have to wait after a tattoo before you give blood?

Wonderful Crumpet!!! I have been giving blood for years,,tonight, after work, I am going to give platelets,,it takes longer,,but 2 pints are given, and separated for white cells, and then it's awesome to see my red blood cells returned back to me and see my white cells to be given to a young girl undergoing cancer treatments. Last time, there was a shortage, as this is often needed for cancer patients as the treatment destroys their white cells so much. I was told at least 60% are qualified to give blood however only 5% do. Thus, there is often a blood supply shortage.

JH- I am waiting for my blood donor pack to arrive to find out as the man on the phone didn't know. I can't donate bone marrow for 12 months after a tattoo but I was also ruled out of that for 4 or 5 other reasons which should with time go away. I did check first as I did want to donate for stem cells inspired by Dansk but having recently had surgery and also pre-cancerous cells they said I couldn't so I went ahead with the tattoo. Other firsts hoped for: First hug/kiss with an American on American soil?

That is one of the questions they will ask you. Don't know if it will disqualify you though.

Just noticed you are from the UK, that is one of the questions they ask us here in the US. They also ask us if you had a blood transfusion in the UK.

In Canada there is a 12 month deferral for blood donation following any tattoos or piercings.

That's one thing that's keeping me from getting a tattoo - I try to donate blood between 4 and 6 times a year, and getting a tattoo would disqualify me for a year.

    Good for you Crumpet!

Giving blood is something I have considered, as it was such a no no while I
was a jw. I just haven't got around to sorting it out, and I'm a bit too busy
at the moment to do so, but I will one day.
