"Hortensia, darling"
Why, BizzyBee, we hardly know each other!
Are JW's generally better than average people?

BizzyBee:
No transition coming here but you do sound like one of the more reasonable ones on this board.
The title of this thread begs contoversy and I just responded. Sometimes I am not very diplomatic but am working on it.
The reason I feel JWs are better is because they at least try to do better. As seen on this thread many are content to just go along. You have to admire people who put forth the effort to better themselves.

I think it would be a huge mistake to accept everyone here as being trust-worthy.
I havent read all the replies. but I would agree with Lee's comment above .I have been on here 5 years, & been stung quite a few times with those I trusted.... From the JWD line. ( they dont post anymore. ) but there are con men/women in this world in all walks of life.I love all on here (even the ones that did make a fool of me) because I believe we all stand before a GREATER JUDGE , & HE is fair. But It can never be said I didnt TRY to be a good samaritian

You have to admire people who put forth the effort to better themselves.--- Would that include college education? What makes jw's so arrogant to think others do not try to better themselves or try to be better human beings? I just don't get that. They can look around and see the differences others are in fact making in the world, feeding the poor, putting in clean drinking water, clothing the poor, etc..etc... Jw's do none of that and if someone continues to question their 'unique' scripture twisting they refuse to answer questions and tell the person they are not trying hard enough or just accept these teachings or be damned and walk away from that person. I know Christians who have on going discussions with non believers for literally years and years, they don't give up and they don't think themselves superior. They have a true love for their fellow human being and develop a relationship with the person even if they don't agree with each other. They become that light of the world by their behavior, their lives, not by how many hours they spend knocking on not at homes or by how many pieces of literature they place. The idea of providing spiritual help should bring people to Christ not an organization.

You bring out some good points. I agree no one has the right to feel superior to anyone. In your own self though, it is good to know you are trying to do the right thing.
Higher education has its place. More mature ones can and do succeed in furthering these interests. The main point is not to keep it as a the focus of life over spiritual matters.
'counting time' as you say is very much not a priority to any I know. Mature ones are sincerely trying to find the meek ones who are being drawn to Jehovah.
Having an ongoing discussion with someone for years can be possible. Most now days though are apathetic to any doctrines of any religion. Most don't see the immediacy of the message being brought to them .. as in Noah's day.

My brother retires from the Post Office in 2 years at age 56. My sister who has been a JW for 33 years has no retirement, no savings, and a huge car payment for a four door vehicle that can be used in service. My sister is currently living rent free, with no job other than being a JW, at my 83 year old mothers home. My mothers confessed nightmare is that she fears that my sister will try to live with her until her dying day. My sister is a BURDEN to her non-JW family because while everyone else goes out and busts their ass to support themselves and their families, my sister plays pretend Christian.
As seen on this thread many are content to just go along.
I'm sure that you are trying to say something here...
You have to admire people who put forth the effort to better themselves.
I admire people who are self sufficient. My JW MIL shunned my daughter upon the advice of a PO who had never met my wife. My wife has supported my MIL for over 30 years. My MIL is very, very emotionally needy. She is a lifelong JW who has been warning of the end of the world for her entire life which now spans 73 years. Of course she is nice to my wife again now that she needs help once more. Drama. drama. drama.
My non-JW family has made charity work and service to others a big part of their life. My JW sister and MIL do no charity work.
I wouldn't call the JW's I have been exposed to self sufficient....either financially or emotionally.
They may have tried to better themselves according to the WTS self serving definition....but to the people in their lives that are left picking up the pieces for them both financially and emotionally...their burden has merely been transferred from themselves to their relatives.

Rosalee, that is such an open ended and inaccurate statement at multiple levels.
Firstly you are judging 'better' against the WTS defn of better. Is choosing to knock on empty doors better than religions that set up charities, schools and hospitals? Does a religion that condemns smoking or masturbation better than a religion that does not? Is this religion not going beyond the word of God, since the Bible chooses not to discuss such common practices.
And what evidence do you have of such an assertion. I personally know that most people who are born JWs do not try very much at all, in fact most try to hide who they really are. I have seem many JWs vomiting in drunken stupors. A high percentage of JWs I know are fornicators and gamblers, many still hiding their actions from the elders. Though they are not blatantly practicing these actions, as are people that do not believe in the same principles, they are no more 'moral' than people within other high control religions.

Something I've noted, if someone shows skepticism towards the Witness belief system, are they written off as "uninterested ones"?
-
Rosalee
Most JWs started out as skeptics. So no, these are not written off for that reasom.

Why only the meek then?
