I've been listening to this from the Congress for some time now, and it's back in the news today. The idea is to build a literal fence along the US border, hundreds of miles long and costing millions of dollars, in order to keep out illegal aliens.
Damn you Canadian outlaws! Oops! Sorry, I guess that's the MEXICAN border they're talking about... OK...
Anyway, does anyone else feel that this seems like an incredibly idiotic "feel good" idea that won't really affect anything? Like people won't dig tunnels, or cut the fence, or create a "ladder" arch right over the top of the damn thing, or just blow big fucking holes in it, out in the middle of the desert where no one is really watching?
And, why don't we need one on the Canadian border? Maybe because the people there have a standard of living equal to or better than the one here, so they don't feel the need to risk their lives to come here for menial jobs at low wages? MAYBE, just maybe, THAT might indicate a better approach to solving the problem with Mexico??
Sorry if this offends anyone, but this fence idea just strikes me as really, really stupid and ineffectual.
Anyone want to prove me wrong, or do you agree?
