I think it's a stupid idea. Mostly for the reason why they want to build it. To stop people from coming in to work the American jobs that Americans dont want anyway.

I think it is a very dumb idea. If someone wants to get into the US they will find a way to get in.

To solve the problem of illegal immigrants we need to remove the motivation for entering: Employers willing to hire illegal immigrants.

I'm not saying we should go after every single employer who is suspected to hiring illegal immigrants... for now I think it will be sufficient to prosecute employers who blatantly hire illegal immigrants. That way small businesses will not be paranoid about hiring people while at the same time making illegal immigrants think twice about crossing the border.

I find it quite ironic how so many people around the world are constantly bashing the US yet at the same time it seems like everyone wants to come here.

I don't have anything to say on this subject, but I just wanted to say I thought it was pretty funny that if you look down on the ads on the bottom of this page, it says stuff like, "Fencing.com-for all your fencing needs!" or whatever it says.... lol.

I wouldn't call the Berlin Wall successful, at least in the stream of extreme time. Walls always fall. How about the Great Wall of China? Ultimately it did not keep out the mongol hordes. Then there's Hadrian's Wall. It failed to keep Little Toe contained. And what of the Maginot Line? A dismal failure.

I cried the day the Berlin Wall fell. How is it a Canadian, who was never personally affected by it's existence, was scarred by it's very existence?

The cure for Mexico is to raise it's standard of living. I think it's happening anyways. In the stream of extreme time, these pressures are temporary.

"The cure for Mexico is to raise it's standard of living."

    Exactly.

It is strange that the US is trying to fence out the people that the US economy depends on to do so many jobs. I was just in San Diego, and you see it everywhere there.

BUT, I live in Vermont, and believe it or not, the dairy and farming industry here is totally dependent on immigrant labor. In fact, A THIRD of Vermont's farm workers are illegal immigrants.
The industry would collapse without them.

I think it's a great idea. The last thing America should do is let in the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free...

I wonder if all the people who love the idea of an "open" border are U.S. taxpaying citizens? People simply are not in reality if they think any amount of people can just come streaming across anybody's border. And cut the crap about it being for "menial paying jobs". It is more than that. Like, free health care at everybody else's expense. I am all for shipping many of these people to certain OTHER countries who are so vocal about how the U.S. should "accept" these illegal aliens. THEN I want to hear you all crying about the high taxes, crime and other social ills.

As far as saying because the people are "poor" that means they can and should come here, well how about opening it up to the WHOLE world since the rest of the world is poor??? This is insane.

LHG - Guarding and protecting our borders is a good idea, I agree. The point I'm making is that running a few thousand miles of fence seems a really piss-poor way of doing it!

No one is saying just open the borders to anyone who wants to cross. Let's just find some more intelligent ways of protecting them.

I want them just not for what the are paying for them and seeing as hiring illegals is well illegal whose problem is that. Jail the people that are hiring the and guess what the problem is solved. All it would take is an under cover man getting evidence that the guy knew they were illegal and he was paying them under the table (Two crimes both felonies)

    Seeker4:

I agree that they should find better ways of protecting the border. For instance, like enforcing the laws that already are on the books, which they wont do.

The reason this is happening is that we have been betrayed by our leaders. They have sold out to corporations, etc. and have no regard for the average taxpaying citizen. Somebody's got an agenda here. Maybe they are hoping to replace everybody with an ignorant serf class who won't know their rights. What are they going to erect? Tent cities??? This has the potential to be a nightmare. In many areas around the country, everybody is seeing this.
