With all the news concerning the child abuse lawsuits, and from reading many comments concerning the WTS' view of women, I started remembering lots of little things that were brought up at my KH in the many years I attended. I don't remember anything pertaining to the brothers. But, there were things brought up from the platform that just seem ridiculous. And in hindsight, seem to underscore a creepy obsession by the males in the congregation.
Examples....
1. When my sister was about 7 or 8, and was about to go up to the platform to be part of a demonstration, a brother made my mom take her into the bathroom and rip her hem out of her skirt, saying that it was too short and would distract the audience.
2. A talk was given concerning the black sisters at the hall, who had adopted a fashion "sin" of wearing cream, or white sheer pantyhose to the hall. This was frowned upon by the elders, and they were asked not to wear these anymore.
3. There were a group of very pretty young sisters in our hall. (I was best friends with the one who was later molested by a brother) They were in age from about 12 to 15. We lived right on the ocean, and they all tanned beautifully. So, they would come to the hall in the summer with their long dresses on, and no pantyhose. I mean, it was always at least 95 degrees. So, you could see about 5 inches of their legs. They were called to the back room and told they could not come to the KH without pantyhose on anymore.
Does anyone recall similar incidences at their hall? It seems to me that a lot of the brothers were really "paying attention to the flock" in ways that were not scriptural.
