Yeah, my parents always made me sit down while trying on new dresses to make sure it covered my knees both ways. When I started the fade I wore ALL my skirts above the knee. Dad said something to the effect "Don't you think that is a little short?". I said no and walked off. It felt great!!

They didn't do that at my KH. Everything was fine as long as it didn't show your knee. My grandma fussed about people obsessing about the length of skirts because she said they would wear short skirts in the 1950s. It was kinda like -- as long as you looked modest they were fine. They were anal about stupid things like the men not wearing kacki's or sport coats on stage.

women dress different i different areas. some people are not so uptight about the female body. In some areas low cut sun dresses are the norm. shame we have to hide out bodies. (BTW, an elder told one sister to put a bible in all strategic places, to protect from the demons, she was so beautiful and provocative.) this sister ended up moving to where her dress was the norm, on the islands on coast of USA.

I think the JW men should wear monk like robes. Because I find men in suits really hot. There is only one thing better than a man in a suit.

I remember a couple of us getting counseled for skirts with splits, even though the splits were below the knee. The elders daughters of course wore skirts with splits right up the leg stopping just below the hip. They went witnessing, gave talks & presentations from the platform dressed like that.

I gave a talk on dress and grooming once and brought up the issue of a hem line. I asked the congo what elder they wanted stationed at the front door with a tape measure in hand

to measure skirt lengths. The sisters loved the talk. The elders hated it. They didn't bother the "borderline" sisters after that. God I loved sticking it to those self righteous dumbasses!

I do remember a lot of favoritism in our hall when it came to the elder's family. The elder's daughter got to attend her prom, (they moved to the south from NY-and it seems it was allowed there) but we weren't allowed to.

But, what was the purpose of having to wear pantyhose, even in 100 degree heat? What was the problem with bare legs? Damn, I remember being at an outdoor assembly and blistering in those damned things.

We had talks at my hall where the brother would mention that we should check how high our slit on our skirts was and imagine that the hieght of our slit was the bottom of the skirt and if it was above our knees it was too short. I was councled on my dresses being to long (ankle length) because it was a fad at the time and i was being worldly.

The elders in the congos in this area (midwest USA) would have had a cow if they could have seen the sisters in one of the conventions in Germany last year I attended as a delegate. Since it was an international, there was a section for different languages. One was for Tamil speakers. Of course, Tamil is spoken mostly in Sri Lanka and South India. There were some absolutely gorgeous Indian sisters there that lived in Europe attending. Many were wearing the traditional sari. I wish I had my pics handy right now, but I dont. The sari has a skirt worn that is full length. The only way I can describe the blouse they wore underneath the sari cloth is a sports bra with sleeves. Then they wear the sari (long length of beautifully designed cloth) entertwined and over the whole outfit. Often the sisters had their midriff bare in front, showing off their pierced belly buttons. The sisters often also had a small, modest stud in the side of their nose! On the platform in front of the section during individual experiences unique to the language, the sisters were a little more covered, but there was still exposed middrift from time to time. I loved it of course.

Yet, all of them were considered good examples, not "bible studies" or "new ones" or "weak". Yet, if the elders here seen that, they would have had a cow. Good thing none of them were invited as delegates, since they dont have open minds about other cultures. I considered many of these sisters extremely beautiful (OK..they were.hot!) Considering it was record breaking heat in Hamburg Germany last year, they were probably the most comfortable people in the stadium!
