I think that a person who doesn't know much will get bogged down by too much
information. I like jwfacts link to 15 Minute Guide to Truth found on the link at
    http://jwfacts.com/index.htm

I think Crisis of Conscience is required reading if she's doing a research paper.

I'd send her to freeminds.org. The nice thing is that site not only deprograms JWs, but it's educational for non-jws as well.

    My picks as well.

    I read your update on

a comparision of a New Religious movement from the perspective of an "insider" and of an "outsider". I can essentially focus on any aspect, like the teachings or the leader or the religion in general.

There are some great chapters in IN SEARCH OF CHRISTIAN FREEDOM. Pick one, that would be my suggestion.

JW's say they are morally superior or in a spiritual paradise. Take ISOCF chapter (16?) on that and show Ray's
comments on WTS teaching and reality. That's one way.

Uh huh......me thinks she doesn't know what she's getting in to.

Maybe I'll send her that info tomorrow....my book is at work.....I'll include the link to jwfacts too. I've got freeminds on there, the new "Quotes" site along with http://www.ajwrb.org/ that Scully recommended along with http://jwfacts.com/index.htm that OTWO suggested.

I never heard. What happened here. What did she do? How did she do?

Maybe she could call the Service Desk, tell them she is a student doing a research paper, and ask about the Watchtower joining the UN and about the stance of the WTS on pedophiles verses the recent court cases. She could ask if they feel they are the only group that has God's approval, then ask about the video of the spokesperson saying the opposite. Just to start.....

I'm not sure.....she probably doesn't have her paper graded yet but I'll let you know when I hear. She was utterly shocked at the links I gave her and said how "totally different" they appear in public.

I see her paper is already done. If something like that ever comes up again for someone, you guys have no idea how much impact your stories have!! Most people understand doctrinal differences (though with jw's it's an unbelievable issue in itself for the general public) what people are always interested in is the personal stories. The shunnings, the jc's, the hypocricies within the congs, pedophile, abuses, etc....etc...etc... For instance, I think it was Drewsagan that was recently worried about him & his wife being df'd for joining the Y? (or part of the reason for dfing) people are dumfounded by this. From personal experience they are interested in the changes within my own jw such as movies allowed, books, etc... Personal stories really resonate because they can see how their own life would be impacted. A friend the other day was at a function that had a prayer (generic, for the general public anyway) and they thought of my jw, he would just sit there trying not to participate. Even the things you guys sometimes think of as small people find fascinating in a sick sort of way. Stories about not knowing how to wrap presents or getting freaked out in Walmart because someone might see you buying a Christmas tree or something. Even those smaller issues make an impact. They can harldy believe anybody would have to worry about things like that. And stories about Halloween bring laughter and sadness for them. First they laugh because some jw's really did hide out in the basement when little fairies and princesses knocked on their doors, then sadness that adults would instill such fear in children and have such fear in life themselves.
