Actually I'd be more relieved if atheists were correct. Obvilion doesn't frighten me, actually it would almost be a relief.
What concerns me much more, would be if Christians were correct. In that scenario, I see God as either some sort of anal retentive bean counter, tallying up all my "incorrect" deeds and thoughts (in which case I'm screwed), or God is some disconnected, imperious CEO-type who neither knows or cares about the little guy who works in the mailroom (me).
If this one is right, I'm in big, big trouble. Considering how bad this life has been for me, I'm thinking the next one is going to be even worse.
Whatever happens I don't want it to hurt. I'll settle for that. To quote Daffy Duck: "I don't like pain ... it hurts too much."

Ok Warlock adding Funky Derek to the list.
Maybe what happens is what we think will happen. You know if you think you go to heaven then you go to heaven. If you think you'll wake up in paradise then you will. If you think you'll get 70 virgins than you will.
Who knows.
Off to update my haunting list.

As I understand the "orthodox" Christian teaching...the one closest to center thier is a "particular" judgement and a "general" judgement. We recieve the first at death, the second at the Comming in Glory of our Lord. The first is our personal awareness, the second everyone is aware of the outcome and the reasons.
I, personally, believe we go to "The Land of the Dead" and await the, future, judgement of Christ.

VW,
There is one thing about this future judgement of Christ that never made sense to me. If Jesus died for our sins, and they are all wiped out at death anyway, how can we be judged for things that have already been forgiven?

Everyone who has answered this question, has answered it from their own life experiences. What do you "THINK" happens when we die? We think about any given subject from the knowledge we have gained from learning from others and our own personal life experiences. For some death appears to be final. For others who have made claims that they have had a "NDE." or have had contact with their dead relatives, seen ghosts, have belief systems, born again, faith etc. Death is not final.
For me, I have lost the faith belief system, lost the Bible as a source that answers this question. I have had no personal after life experiences, no contact with my dead relatives, no born again experience, seen no ghosts etc.
What do I "THINK" happens when we die?" I have no thoughts that will answer this question, as I lack evidence to support what my thinking about what happens to us when we die. I read many thoughts about what others think and I have to leave it at that.
Blueblades, waiting, and waiting for a personal experience that can give an answer to this universal question .

You cease to exist
or
You wake up on an island with polar bears, smoke monsters and surprisingly attractive people
