sinis, I knew the focus would be on the Josephus bit, should have excluded it, I know it is viewed as spurious. That is the main point of the article, so exclude the Josephus passage and you still have outside sources. Philo was more of a philosopher, how many men did he single out and write about? I haven't read his writings, have you? I don't believe that he lived in Jerusalem as this article says, he was in Alexandria, a Hellenistic Jew.
Most histories we have in reference to Tacitus, he must have missed some of the other historians who have mentioned Jesus, have few MSS years between. Was the Iliad written by Homer? After the NT MSS, the Iliad is SECOND in the amount of manuscripts with 643 surviving. That demonstrates if that it is 2nd with that many, that other writings only go down from there. Shall we throw out all of our history as spurious?

So, why did Christians just sprout up all of a sudden in the first century sinis? Can I have your opinion?

I'm traveling (had a very lovely dinner with Abbadon and his SO tonight :)), so I can only put things bluntly and succintly: Tony Bushby has no credibility on biblical matters whatsoever.

Narkissos:
This is complete nonsense, but the very fact that some fairly educated people can buy into it (even for a short while) is quite revealing of the epistemological crisis that the internet age is just starting to bring about imo.
This is SO true! Semi-or no-scholarship + the internet = conspiracy theories.
I`d go as far as to say the internet is a curse.

The Bible is the holy father of "conspiracy theories". In my opinion it is the Bible and it's divisive little deities and demons which is complete nonsense; and more often than not extremely harmful to a health society. If less than accurate information motivates people to question the "divine authenticity" of the Bible, and help bring them out of their coma, more power to it.

I'm not saying christanity, as a pagan religion, did not exist. I am saying that the so called holy books are a fabrication after the fact. It would be akin to me starting a new and improved religion with a steady flow of followers. Eventually, it takes off, but I'm no more holier than the shitty religion next to me.

well thanks, everyone. This is one of the most interesting threads on the forum. I really love how educated you all are! The kind of debate JWs would not participate in. I have to say, when I saw what kind of magazine Nexus is, I realized why I was a little suspicious of the article. The folks who believe in the kinds of things discussed in Nexus are true believers, they believe because they want to, not because of any evidence. I know - I work with them all the time. But Terry, thanks to you for starting such a fascinating thread. I didn't know any of this as I tend to ignore the Bible and anything about the Bible, I'm fascinated by all the information you all seem to have at your fingertips.

Tough-love, Six.
Actually, it's more about seeing clearly the harm and turmoil that Bible beliefs brought to me, and that still infects many in the world.
Reeking from the pages of the Bible, is one of the most diminutive and disgusting images of the divine. An image which fills us with greed to acquiesce, and paralyses us with fear if we do not. It's a disease which separates humanity and oils the machine of war, animosity, mans inhumanity to man, and disregard for the planet (as our little deity will soon fix things, we don't have to). It's insane....and it is likely so was the holy circus and freak show of Constantin's.
I applaud anyone with the courage to reveal the cancer of the ages; even if the basic information presented is not all correct, the fallacy of the Bible certainly is. For me it is far, far more important that people openly question the Bible's authenticity and credibility, than hurry to discredit anyone who does.
Perhaps the Bible has been so important for so long, that it's habitual to protect it. It doesn't deserve protecting. It's dangerous; should have warning labels all over it; and should be kept out of the hands of the innocent, like all other pornography.
