If a JW is an ardent believer, and faithfully practices his or her religion, are they, in your mind, "bad" or "evil", in reality? No. They are just blind and immature. Jesus said "father forgive them for they know not what they do." We were that way ourselves before we saw the light. Most people are zombies walking around in a trance. Somehow we were fortunate enough to wake up.
OK, Your Opinion: Are Witnesses Who Practice Their Religion "Bad"?

Personally, I don't like labeling a person as a "bad person". Who the hell am I?

Yes. Most fundies are. They say they are only doing what thier god wants them to do but it is a piss poor excuse for thier behavior.
If a witness goes against what thier heart tells them is the right thing to do in order to please the borg then I think that they are bad people. There was a time when I felt sorry for the poor brainwahed robots but, not any more. I'll call a spade a spade. They are bad people because they refuse to think for themselves.
Ask any fundie, if a satanist is only doing what they believe thier god wants them to do, are they bad?

I agree with the 'victims of victims' idea. To me there seems to be three different 'types' of individuals in the org.
- People who would be 'bad' regardless if they are JW or not. Some leave and some stay.
- People that start out good but become hardened and bitter because of the organization.
- People that hide everything deep inside themselves. They don't follow everything the org says and don't tell a soul. They are good people and just can't let the org change it. -

I fully agree with Dansk...although I detest the cult and what it stands for, I believe that once you are out and know whats going on and continue to practice 'with total loyalty and committment', then there is something wrong. The interesting parts of these conversations though is how we differentiate and sort through other various groups of people that have committed atrocities via brainwashing - we back off some of those brainwashed while we condemn others for their actions. Point - kids raised in the Hitler youth movement who were brainwashed into having loyalty and faith to their leader; average citizens engaged in any horrific warfare - kids in parts of Africa who rape, torture and kill after being brainwashed - kids raised and brainwashed into loyalty to a religion that tells you to blow yourself and as many infidels up as you can - are all of these people who practice those 'brainwashed' activities 'bad' or 'evil'? The only difference between any of these and a JW is that the JW is moderated by the laws of the land that would put them in jail if they murdered according to the bible - the GB stops short of that command, however, too many of us have been told pretty clearly that if stoning were allowed, we'd be dead by now. Shunning, the 2 witness rule and the blood issue have destroyed/killed any number of people that are JW's but the subtlety with which it is done somehow makes us look at it as less atrocious - in reality are the actions of those inside any different? Just a thought...........sammieswife.

Why do you have to bring me into this BFD?
if a satanist is only doing what they believe thier god wants them to do, are they bad?

BFD, If, while a Witness you did something that bothered your conscience and accepted what the Watchtower says, even though you felt it was wrong, did that make YOU a bad person at that time??

Yes. For example, I wished my father would die because he was never going to be a witness. I did not want to see him die at armageddon and be gone forever. I wanted him to die first so I'd be with him for eternity.
Does a "good" son wish his father dead?
