Vernon, If Gary read what you said about yourself, he'd think you're real bad----worse than Hitler!

I think that to be a truly "bad" person, you have to be aware that you are having a very negative effect on others, and yet not care.

For example: When I was a JW, I did whatever the WT told me to do, including shunning DF'd people. But if I saw a DF'd person in the store, I'd catch their eye and smile, or send a little wave if they were at the meeting. I truly didn't realize the agony some DF'd people go through, losing everything and everyone. If I had been operating with a normal, open mind at the time, I'd have thought through the whole situation to it's logical conclusion and realized how difficult it must be. But my thoughts ended at "the WT says to shun DF'd people, and that is what Jehovah wants, so that is what I have to do. The DF'd person was disobedient to Jehovah."

When I left the WT, one thing that was very hard for me to deal with was the fact that there were so many things that I did and said as a JW that probably hurt people, which was never my intention. I have since come to realize how amputated my thinking ability was as a JW, not just in all matters religious, but in practical matters, too, just in dealing with my fellowman.

The one good thing that has come out of it is realizing that this is how my husband's mind is working right now, which keeps me from getting too angry with the things he does as a JW. I get angry with the actions, and let him know when I think it's appropriate, but I don't get angry with him as a person. He's a good person... in a bad religion.

I think if they continue to practice when they have heard or read apostate material they aren't really being "good" people.. whatever that means. I don't have much use for Witnesses that go door to door and attend all the meetings just for their friends and family when they realize their beliefs are BS.

Not bad but mislead, blind or apathetic...

No they are not necessarily bad. IMHO, there are secular JWs and spiritual ones. I think I don't have to explain the difference, except that the spiritual ones are actually seeking to have a relationship with God and have a good conscience; believe the things they are practicing will bring blessings from above. I also think these are the ones who end up leaving JWs either by DF, DA, fading or just stopping in their tracts.

First of all, the word "bad" is totally subjective.

IMO, people aren't good or bad - their behavior is good or bad, by my personal definition, which is ever-changing.

Sometimes, some JWs behave in ways that I consider "bad" - shunning, gossiping, intimidating others, being pompous, taking themselves way too seriously, and letting an organization tell them to withdraw life-saving medical treatment from family members. More: cooperating with evil, which is what I consider the WTS.

If they seriously go ahead and shun their offspring for the sake of some minor 'sin of the flesh' - YES. If they go ahead and murder their child because of the blood policy - YES. If they REALLY believe that 6 billion people deaerve to die - YES. If they are willfully concealing information about a sick paedo bastard because of the reputation of the society/cong - YES.
