Too bad the "grand scheme of the universe" has only been described so far, afaik, from within time (spatial metaphor intended).

We view 'time' as a linear concept that takes us around a clock and orders our lives.
But 'time' is not as we imagine it. In that way, going from one end of a line to another, it does not exist.
As with everything in the universe, it is cyclical.
Not as we experience it do you mean?
It does exist though, the universe could not exist without it
As to time being an illusion, I would be grateful if anybody could explain Kurt Godels theory of a
rotating universe without time. I read a book on this but I can't understand what he's talking about,
it's w -a - y too abstract.

rotating universe without time.
I've not read that book but have read about rotating universe. As I understand it, the observed universal red shift of distant objects pretty much disproves the rotating universe theory.

Well yes and no.
Time is only an additional coordinate to the other three normal spacial coordinates. Therefore the universe IS time every bit as much as it IS space.
Time is not so much the illusion as the forward flow of time (to modern physics) appears to be. Spacetime appears to be a totalitus (if I may coin a word) continuum.
Kinda reminds of a conversation I had with a buddy long time ago now. I remember it like it was yesterday
We were discussing stuff and the fact that when you see the night sky, it is now as it was. The moon is just under two seconds old, the sun 9 minutes or so, etc. Extrapolate this to the furtherest objects we know of and we're seeing things that don't exist anymore, at least as we see them now. Light can only travel so fast and these things are so far away. Essentially, we are looking back in time. What exists there now, if anything, won't "exist" here for millions if not billions of years, long after we're gone. Time as a linear concept seemed rather inaccurate at the time and we played with the idea that if what existed long ago exists here and now, it will continue to exist as such for some time, perhaps forever, as a snapshot in time somewhere. Everything that existed will always exist, in a sense. Conversely, everything that is yet to be, has been for some time. Perhaps it's always been there. And then we both reiterated the concept that space is time, time is space, applied it infinitely and pondered the ramfications of it upon our minds.
But, we were stoned at the time,....

Amazing isn't it. Everything is just a matter of where you observe it from.
Imagine being able to travel faster that the light that leaves the earth and actually overtaking your image. Then STOP and look back at yourself.
IF, everything that is going to happen has already happened and everything that has happened is STILL happening, then a lot of occurences that might appear unexplainable are really scientifically explainable.
Why d some people KNOW what is going to happen?
Why do some people see past happenings?
Quantum physics makes a lot of things explainable.
But whether it is spot on and accurate is another question altogether.
But, the simple FACT that when we look up in the sky we see the PAST means that nothing is as it seems and we have to think beyond the circling hands of a clock on the wall to understant that TIME as we simple believe it to be does NOT exist.
Anthropic Principle is indeed a stumbling block. Everything seems to be so precisely tuned for us to be able to live here. Of course we could look it the other way. If universe wasn't like that we wouldn't be around to ask such questions. Could there be other universes, possibly trillions of them with not so favorable conditions and there is no one around to ask question why? It is as if a jackpot lottery winner start thanking god for choosing him/her as a winner because he/her can't see any other explanation. Could it all be just a cosmic lottery?
