I see the same thing. Organized Religion in all denominations have similar traits. I imagine they do well because many people need someone or some organiization telling them how to live. Some people are take charge, find a way to get things done folks but the masses seem to be more comfortable with a so called leader.

Atheist fundies
Atheism is not a religion. There is no fundamental belief system, moral code or teachings that are followed. There is no organization. There are no churches or temples or meeting halls for atheists. There are no services, prayers or rituals. There is no leader that is followed or looked up to. There is no purpose, goal or agenda to atheism. (Well, other than the goal of NOT being dogmatically dictated to by religious fundamentalists.) I don't think it is accurate to call atheism a religion. It has no characteristics of a religion. It is like calling all the people who don't believe in tooth fairies "afairyist fundamentalists".

Perhaps a time comes -- for some of us -- where the words and thoughts which make up the groceries of religious teachings, reach a point of tasting bland and stale. They don't feed us the sustenance we desire. So, it's not surprising that they all pretty much fade into a kind of unappetising grey mush.

Thanks Cog!
Atheism is not a belief system!

It is simply a lack of belief.
I like what jt had to say....I'm not ever hungry for gray mush myself.
The hunger remains however.

emptywords
There are many spiritually minded and good people in the JW org; unfortunately the org has become corrupted, the emphasis on obeying the WTBS is idoltry and many are in fear of speaking their minds, a lot do not believe that what he GB is doing is right, they stay because they hope Jehovah will clean the org up, they stay because they believe in and love Jehovah. Some stay out of fear of being shunned by their family, others because they need to stay at home to be supported and still others because they LIKE it that way, this later group will be in for a huge shock when the WT comes down. As for me I stay put in the org, and occasionly go out witnessing speak only about Christs Kingdom and other upbuilding aspects of it.
I firmly believe in the bible and believe that Jehovah will set matter right soon.

Yep, that is; anybody who is trying to convince me that theirs is right and everybody elses is wrong, is coming from the same place: they need affirmation. The more people they have around them who agree with them, the easier it is to believe whatever delusion they've chosen.
