I don't know about French tax law, but one would think they would be required to pay taxes on their winnings to the French.

Speaking of the French, who are forever streets ahead of the rest of the world in progressive thinking, they are soon to pass a law that allows for any wages earned on an 'overtime' basis to be earned tax free. How about that to encourage a healthy work ethic! nvrgnbk,

I just can't understand why the tone of these conversations needs to turn so ugly and insulting.

Because people are people. I was on a professional music Board last week which makes this one look like a baby shower and where threats of bodily harm are a daily occurrence. Keith Jarret has just been banned from performing at the Jazz Festival in Umbria for insulting the City and the audience. One of my clients, whom I caught stealing and reported to security chiselled a line tthorugh the paintwork of my car the other day. Meanwhile In Australia the Sun pulls itself above the horizon and spreads itself over the Karri forests of Augusta and a parrot in his usual morning voice tells us all to get stuffed and leave his territory. No XJW's, no sociopaths, no Godless peons, just people and animals at work. ;) HS

    Nvr,

It is rather typical of discussions between free thinkers and those that are caught up in patriotic indoctrination. The patriots feel it in thier hearts where they put their hand when giving thier plegde of aligence to the flag, it is years of indoctrination from infancy that often bring up strong reactions, it is the typical love it(US government) or leave it mentality.

Frankie, this has nothing to do with patriotism.

There was a comment made about IP SEC's attitude towards his future children being not unlike JWs parents attitude towards their children. I agree. Removing their options, making their life difficult/nearly impossible for YOUR beliefs is very JW like. Remove their choice, make them vulnerable, put them at a disadvantage in the society that they live in. VERY JW attitude.

Just for a little background. My FIL had big ideas about the IRS also. He was an attorney and and aerospace engineer in Southern Cal. The man made a lot of money and was smart in his investments. He made a grand display in his will about how he was leaving his estate-entirely fairly to his 9 children, and very clearly disinheriting the daughter who would have nothing to do with him.

This man thought that the rules did not apply to him, since he didn't like them.

His estate at first looked enormous-even with 9 heirs dividing it. THEN they discovered that he had illegally/improperly divorced his second wife and hadn't paid taxes in years. In the end, after the lawyers and IRS, the estate was less than half of my dad's-who was a carpenter and spent most of the 70's un/underemployed, and who had a stay home wife and 3 kids. This man got away with it, but his last (rather arrogantly stated) will was entirely invalidated by the fact that most of his estate went to the IRS and the woman he spitefully divorced 10 years before his death. Yeah, he got away without paying taxes for years. And-you can't take it with you, right? So who cares? But things he wanted his kids to have-they didn't. And the woman he hated enough to divorce her in the shabby way that he did-got most everything(she was a nice lady, and he hadn't actually divorced her, so she was entitled).

Actually you are wrong one several accounts.

First if when my child came of age and decided my way was not for him, he would be perfectly free to make his own choice, no harm no foul. I would still support him as a parent.

Second, far from taking away from his life I would be enriching it with self-sufficiency. So what if he couldnt get a loan from the big bad banking insti? My child would be brilliant enough to come up with creative alts.

Further, its seems much more Watchtowerish to just put your head in the sand and do what you are told right or wrong.
