I'd love to find a way out of paying taxes...without getting into trouble.

Unfortunately, only the rich and criminal seem to be able to get out of paying their fare share.

I'm not rich and not gutsy enough to be criminal, so I guess I'll pay what's owed and bitch about it.

I understand the reasoning (to a degree) as to why some are averse to paying taxes based on morality issues or the like. But since the taxes also pay for services that we need and use, such as schools, roads, police, fire defense and some medical, it seems that we need to help pay for the services.

Yes, there is a lot of waste of tax money on stupid things and some may go to fund wars that are illegal. But in this country we're fortunate enough to be able to vote out representatives that aren't representing us as a whole. If we find ourselves in the minority, then we either have to deal with the situation or work to convince people that they need to change. That's where the "freedom" part comes in. We can freely campaign to make changes in the government. We can vote in different representatives. If motivated enough, we could even run for office ourselves.

That's the way to try to make a change in the system, not by just refusing to pay taxes. A few stubborn people refusing to pay taxes is not going to send a message to the government. It might make you feel good about it...at least until you get caught.

Failure to file and/or pay income taxes has serious consequences, notwithstanding the claims of idiots at seminars.

The IRS can levy your bank accounts, garnish your wages, lien your house and other property, and, if your conduct is deemed criminal tax evasion, cause your arrest and prosecution. This is true regardless of what some charlatan at a seminar wants you to believe.

If I ever produce offspring, the child shall not have a SS# nor a birth certificate.

To claim a child as a deduction on that lovely yearly form, the child MUST have a SS number. Sorry.

There are benefits to filing taxes. Occasionally you get a refund. While our kids were young, before they no longer qualified as a deduction, we got a nice refund every year.

If you work for an employer, you already pay taxes. Maybe you just don't like to file. And you may be due a refund. The IRS would love to keep your money.

    John Doe,

What's with the obsession with avatars? Fine, I'll change it. ;-)

Yeah sure. You played me good. ;-) I do admit, however, to growing weary with people mentioning my avatar every time they disagreed with me. Is that why you don't have one?

    John,

I do admit, however, to growing weary with people mentioning my avatar every time they disagreed with me.

Well, you must admit it did look a little, how shall I put it, GI Joe. I think it might puzzle people why a grown man would take off his shirt, prime his camera, tense all his muscles, take a picture of himself and then use it as an avatar on an international discussion Board.

When that man then presents himself as a of sort no-nonsense Right Wing Hit Man, then it is likely to draw a little friendly fire. ;)

Is that why you don't have one?

    No.

Taxes are payable in exchange for a government benefit used. That benefit is the Federal Reserve money system. Now, if you can prove that you did not use or receive any US dollars last year, then you can avoid paying taxes.
