James Penton claims big Watchtower revelations to come...

Any new "revelations" alone will not be shattering enough to cripple the WTS. So far, no other scandal has done it. Not sleeping with the Scarlet Wild Beast, not the child abuse scandal, not the "big news" regarding the tort of misrepresentation. What these new "revelations" will do is add to the ammunition to help more people realize that something is not right about the bOrg. The more scandals, the more some people will question their affliation. The more damning information there is the more people will free themselves from their bonds of slavery.

The WTS will continue on though. They wil not go away. Worst case scenerio - they may lose membership, they may have to circle the wagons and reorganize. They may have to shift their marketing to a new target audience. They've always done that to some degree anyway. Their glory days may be over...the days of 6 million members. Maybe it will shrink back to 2 or 4 million. They've already started selling properties in Brooklyn. I understand that the farm no longer is the self-sufficient community that it once was...they've gone back to procuring their foods from outside sources, cutting costs and volunteers. They've laid off hundreds of Bethelites...is it because of the lack of work or because they don't want the health worries of an older work force? Either way, the message is clear...cut backs.

History of other religions shows that religions usually don't die. They evolve and continue. They change their doctrine to reflect the times of which they live. The Mormons outlawed polygamy to gain US Government approval. Their belief that the American Indians are direct descendants of the Israelites has been disproven through DNA research. The history of Smith and Young has been publicized ad nausem, yet the Mormon church continues to flourish.

Similarly, the WTS will continue to exist...maybe not as the WTS that will knew and hated, but as some kind of entity.

The best that I can hope for is that these "revelations" are enough to add to my ammo of information that can help me free my family from the clutches of the WTS.

Without spoiling anything, I can say that some of the explanations that CT Russel offered for some embarrassing activities he was caught in had me LMAO.

Elsewheres comment is quite enlightening. I can imagine Barbara, who was involved in the Proclaimers (Watchtower history) book could be going to reveal some interesting history without the Watchtower spin.

As Leo said, it will not have a monumental affect, most JWs would not read it or believe it anyway. The Church of God overturned almost all their doctrine, (ie went from anti Trinity to trinity, no birthdays to birthdays etc) and although a large percentage left many stayed, and many of the leavers reformed with the old teachings. Humans are embarassingly addicted to their beliefs.

But that said, every little bit helps, and they will collapse eventually.

I enjoy Barb's work but, that said, we need to realize that hard facts have little effect on the

Watchtower Society unless they cause them legal trouble.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: You could have the Governing Body sodomize young boys

on a parade float, going down Broadway at high noon -and braindead Joe Witness would just say

"Well, it's still the truth!". It's that simple.

Take away their money, surround them with legal entanglements, assimilate Witness kids and

above all - keep chipping away!

I'm also realistic about the (lack of) impact on the rank and file when so-called significant events occur such as Ray Franz's well publicised departure in the early 1980s.

Franz went on to publish Crisis of Conscience (and a follow up) and his book has had significant impact on the lives of countless former dubs. In eye-opening fashion, it drives a stake through the heart of the WTS beast. How many here read C of C and had the scales lifted from our eyes?

Perhaps Barbara is the person to right the next book, the one that does for future generations of ex-dubs what Ray's book did for us.

I find it ironic and disheartening that the media, which is reputedly so "secular" and anti-religion, takes a tepid view of revelations of a scandalous nature concerning the Watchtower Society, Jehovah's Witnesses and even celebrity JW's who go astray. The Ray Franz "incident" was covered like a ribbon-cutting event at a supermarket.

JWs aren't interesting enough. Their religion is not that far reaching into our society and the vast majority of people out there are just not effected by them. From time to time the media takes on a story or two about the JWs, but the basic ignorance that pervades our culture about unpopular religions I think leads even good reporters to make lousy material. Good reporting on such matters is quite rare. Take for example the Frontline piece on Mormons that ran not to long ago. It was on for two nights and got deeper into the religion than I've every seen anywhere else. The fact that curiosity about Mormonism is growing in our culture helped push along with the production of such a piece which might have not been made otherwise.

    Interesting but...

    1) Witnesses who want to believe will write off whatever it is as more apostate lies.

    2) The world at large notices witnesses only when they're banging on the door Saturday morning. I doubt this is likely to generate much interest in the media.

For those that are questioning, it will be one more straw on the camel's back.

sKally said .... THERE IS NO WHERE TO HIDE ANYMORE ACCEPT, UNDERGROUND. If you catch my drift.

    GREAT, GREAT, GREAT - roll on AMOS 9 v 2 and 3

...If they dig down into sheol, from there my own hand will take them. If they go up to the heavens, from there I shall bring them down

and if they hide themselves on the top of Carmel, from there I shall carefully search and be certain to take them, and if they

conceal themselves from in front of my eyes - on the floor of the sea, down there I

shall command the serpent and it must bite them.
