Yeah, L. Ron Hubbard is the Scientology guy. I got a couple of books from his "Battlefield Earth" series years ago while I was still an active Witness. My Dad told me about the Scientology thing so I didn't get anymore of his books. They weren't that good anyway, from what I remember everything smelled bad in the future, or maybe it was just people, anyway he spent a lot of time explaining how people masked bad smells.

Oh, no, guys, L. Ron Hubbard is absolutely great (not the Scientology stuff though). But his Mission Earth Dekaology was really fascinating and won several awards. I loved his stuff. Battlefield Earth was excellent but the movie sucked. Hubbard had a "unique" mind for lack of a better word.

Years ago I read a really funny science fiction book about a movie crew that went back to dinosaur times to make a film, because it would be cheaper to make the movie there/then. But I can't remember the name of the book - it really was funny, though......Hortensia
"The Technicolor Time Machine" by Harry Harrison......published 1967....

Since you all are so good at naming books, I have one I have been wondering about also. I read it about 25 years ago.
A ship, time warp, or something like it. Sailors would appear and disappear, which they would call "Going Zero"
Any ideas??

Quentin - thank you so much. That's it - and I already zipped over to amazon and ordered it. Hope it is as funny as I remember.

I just recently re-read all the Asimov Foundation books. I had forgotten how interesting they are - although when you read them all at once, you can see that he got lazy in some of the books. But still, enjoyed reading them again.
I also took a notion to look for science fiction books along the theme of the "spaceport bar." There are quite a few, so I had an orgy of reading. It was fun.
