Harrison also wrote an interesting "alternate history" trilogy in which dinosaurs had never become extinct, but had continued to evolve, achieving intelligence and bio-technology, BUT mammals had also continued to evolve (unlikely, as most all the ecological niches were already occupied by reptiles, but it did make a good story), and humans eventually came into conflict with the dominant dino-people. "West of Eden" was the title of the first book.

haven't read much Harrison, unless he also wrote the Dune novels. I read all the science fiction I could find as a teenager - if the JWs knew what I was reading in the library, I'd have been in trouble. As it was no one cared enough, they were glad I was out of the way, I suppose. I also recently re-read all the Heinlein books I could find. I still like "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress." And I like all the Douglas Adams books except the last one.

Frank Herbert wrote the Dune series.
Awesome reading IMO

I'm reading that one right now.
After I'm done with it, should I read the ones that follow, or not?

I remember liking the Dune series, but the movie was boring.

You're referring to the David Lynch movie, right?
Sci-Fi channel did a Dune mini-series, and a sequel to it, combining Children of Dune and the book after it.
I've heard they're good, but don't quote me on that.

I would recommend Dune Messiah and Children of Dune. They extend the story well. God Emperor of Dune is a bit dry but full of philosophical meanderings which I enjoyed. Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse Dune were ok but I got the feeling he was running out of material.
The Sci-Fi version of the first three books was well done and did them justice. 'course it took six hours,....lol. The Lynch version was sub par. -

All I know about the Dune movie is that Sting is in it.
I saw the Feyd/Paul battle from the miniseries on youtube; seemed kinda lame, as if it was a duel just for show, and not to the death.

Perhaps. But the miniseries covered the book in depth rather well considering the political intrigue and character drama. Decent fx too.

Well, they had more time to cover it. I haven't seen the movie or the mini-series, but with all that's going on in the book (I'm not even halfway through it yet), I think a mini-series is the only way it would've worked.
