I just read The Stranger by Albert Camus and now I am reading Nacissus and Goldmund by Hermann Hesse, recommended by another poster.
Usually I prefer non-fiction. Recently I read Analysing Discourse: Textual Analysis for Social Research by Norman Fairclough, which was a bit above my head. I thought it might be interesting to apply discourse analysis to Watchtower magazines.

I am reading the New York Times right now with my morning coffee.
In regards to books, I will finish "East of Eden" (John Steinbeck) sometime today or tomorrow. Prior to that I read: "To Kill a Mockingbird" (Harper Lee). I decided to read the clasics. I will extend this to include all Steinbeck's books. I recently read Cannery Row. Great writing.
I picked up "The last Templar" (Ray Khoury) and should finish that within the next few days. I enjoyed the "Da Vinci Code" and "Angels and Demons" from Dan Brown.
The NYT had two articles this past week on the Jack Kerouac's book: "On the Road Again." I may go to Amazon.com and get a copy.
