Georgette Heyer! I have ALL of them!

Monophonic - I got bored with literature - for instance, I would read all the books shortlisted for some literary prize (Booker?) and find they were all pretentious and difficult to finish. I used to read books for a literary agent (which is fun, by the way) and there is a lot of pretentious crap out there. Maybe I got lazy in the search for something truly readable and deep. I like good writing - I remember one author who said he wrote sentences, wasn't concerned with plot so much, and his books were great. So Robert Barnard, for instance, writes really well, even though his books are just mysteries. He taught English literature in Finland or Norway or some cold place like that for years. He writes a good sentence.

I got some good ideas for new books to read from all your posts - it's hard to find a good book to read!

I've got them all as well Hortensia! And Clare Darcy books as well, as she writes in a very similar way, also set in regency times. Nothing like a bit of escapism is there...

i just finished the gospel of the flying spaghetti monster. that was a good book. it sounds childish, but, is actually really good. it pokes fun at religion. it makes fun of j.w.'s directly.

after that, i'm hoping to get my wt abuse c.d. anyday soon, i'm so excited to read it. i also have a book i'm reading called, the book of hiram i'm just getting into. and, the art of war.

At work, away from JW-family eyes: The God Delusion, (Richard Dawkins)

Easy to read and with good humor.

Not as easy to get into as God Delusion, but still fascinating, IMHO.

It won a Pullitzer Prize and was made into a PBS show. (Nvr recommended it to me)

I am reading Seductive Poison: A Jonestown Survivor's Story of Life and Death in the People's Temple by Deborah Layton.

A very good read in my opinion, and a warning to anyone thinking of joining a cult.
