I don't go out of my way to be PC. Honesty is important. Why sugarcoat it?

And just what is that supposed to mean?

The only problem with just calling him a thug is that our local news media will not even describe his ethnicity even though he/she may be wanted for multiple murders. By adding thier ethnicity the chances of someone spotting the thug would go up 100%.

PC is great for "feelgoodism" but is accomplishing nothing by making it easier for thugs to blend in to the crowd and not get caught? The same goes for profiling a certain ethnicity of those wanting to board a plane. Word games are all nice and sweet until people end up dying from it.

90% of the threads here JWD I cannot post on because someone would be offended. Political correctness is just a nice way of saying that you are bulls$%#ting people.

I have to agree with this. In my every day life I find in general I more or less censor myself, don't get invlved or express my thoughts or opinion because someone is bound to be offended. Same thing as with here, I don't usually post on certain threads because of that. I wish I had more back bone to just be myself and not be so worried about offending all the time, maybe someday. But I really respect people who speak their mind even if what they say isn't so PC.

I am definitely not politically correct. I always say what's on my mind, that way nobody will have to wonder "What did he mean by that?". I think if more people said what they meant, it would be easier to get along with people. You could continue talking to people who you get along with, and you can also quickly identify people who you shouldn't waste your time on.

Who decides what is "correct"? This is why the the USA (not USSA!) has the first amendment...

Examples Of Denying Freedom Of Speech
Evidence of this effect is amply demonstrated by the Soviets, who embraced Political Correctness with the Communist Revolution. The lumbering, pompous, impoverished, humourless monster this Nation became is now History. And it should be remembered that in 1914 Tsarist Russia was considered by Edmund Cars, a French economist who then published a book about the subject, to be an economic giant set to overshadow Europe. The SBS television program "What Ever Happened To Russia", which was broadcast at 8.30 pm on 25th August 1994, detailed the terrible effect the Bolshevik's oppression had on their empire. And SBS further detailed the terrible crimes inflicted upon the Russians by their leader Stalin, in the series "Blood On The Snow" broadcast in March 1999.

    No.

I generally don't try to be politically correct. The reason that is is because although I can get along with blacks <and no, I don't say "african-americans" like the PC people because they are not african, they were born in america, so they're americans> I know that their culture is not like mine, and they just don't mix.

Ever see the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"? Those are two groups of WHITE people, but their cultures just don't MIX. The white American-born guy in the movie had to become her religion so that he could become acceptable to "her" people. So he did. Jewish culture and Gentile culture don't mix very well. We're all well acquainted with the Jewish Mother calling on the date and asking "Is she Jewish?". Generally, Jews marry their own kind, due to pressure from families; and Asians marry within their own culture, just to keep the conflict down. That may become irrelevant in time, but for now, it's important.

Everyone thinks that if someone says something about their culture, that that is a SLAM. Not really. It's just the way it is, and the sooner people accept how it is, the sooner we will get over all this nonsense. In the above instance, the movie suggested that it was *okay* for a Greek to marry an American, and I can promise you this is NOT TRUE> Greek Fathers want their daughters to marry Greek men. Just the way it is.

When we stop looking to HOLLYWOOD to direct our social interactions, then we can get on with the business of healing. We can get on to appreciate the wonderful diversity of the people in our country, and appreciate the diverse traditions they offer to our culture. The great food, rituals, everything.

    BrentR,

I agree with your post. I think political correctness is just bullsh#t and a waste of time and tax dollars.

It is like trying to ignore the elephant in the living room. Let's play a game of pretend. Please!

I don't go through life conscious about being PC all the time. On the other hand I find that I can say what I want to, most of the time, without the need to be insensitive to the feelings of other people.

It sometimes seems that the issue of being PC has gone over the top at times. Some of the things I have heard are so ridiculous that they are laughable.
