Why did we have to replace 'deaf' with 'hearing impaired'? They mean the same thing and are people that can't hear insulted by the word deaf? I know that some of the terms got twisted into insulting language such as dumb, retarded etc. Those were originally medically descriptive terms. Who's to say that the PC terms we are now commonly using will not get twisted again? Then what? There are only so many descriptive words available in the english language. Somewhere in the future we will have nothing but foriegn words left to describe a condidtion. I find that rediculous and completely devoid of any logic.
The entire PC movement has done nothing to me that makes me see anything or anybody differently. I was raised that racial slangs were bad words and not to be used. That was way before the PC movement.

I can get along with blacks <and no, I don't say "african-americans" like the PC people because they are not african, they were born in america, so they're americans>
Country Girl, believe it or not, a number of black americans would tell you that the term "black" is more desirable. It seems like white america goes out of there way to say "african-american" but most of white america has yet to realize that all black people are not african-american. All you have to do is ask an actual black african-american and they classify most black people as "black americans". I know about 10 "white african-americans"...and you know what...white americans tell them its impossible for them to be african-american because they're not black.
BTW, I wouldn't say I'm PC. I'm polite and aware of folks within earshot of what I'm saying but if I'm speaking fact...then...why dance around the issue. Everyone is entitled to their opinion - even if it's wrong.

I became an 'apostate' of many scientific, dietary and religious cults before I investigated the WT.
I have become much more mellow over the years.
I still put my oar in when when someone says something that I can use to create cognitive dissonance.
Then I leave the subject alone. I don't get into arguments anymore.
Cheers

I have found that political "correctness" usually results in stagnation. This is basically the authorities telling us what is OK to say and what is not. And, if that's going to be the case, then by being politically correct I am just running a program for them. That is not what I want with my life, any more than I wanted to run the Watchtower program for the Witlesses.
Instead, I try to be reasonable and tell what I reasonably believe is the truth (except when I am speculating, and then I usually look at past history and present trend). Sometimes what I believe is the truth is in fact based on erroneous information. Sometimes I later find new information that contradicts what I previously believed. But, more often political "correctness" is just the Establishment's tool to water down the truth and extend the life of their lies so they can control people that much longer. And, sometimes the truth hurts people. But it is better to be hurt by the truth than be appeased by a lie, since the hurt will be that much bigger.
Of course, I am no longer politically "correct" when it comes to Jehovah's Witlesses. They are witless, regardless of who it offends. For those in it, the real truth hurts. That I acknowledge. But, if they stay in, they are going to be hurt even worse in the long run. So, political correctness goes out the window in that case.

Surely you jest.
No, silly dot. Surly, I jest. Of course I was kidding.

Not at all. I do not delibertly try to offend or hurt anyone, but I am at the same time a very honest and dirrect person. I have come to realize that many people are looking for ways and statements to be offended by. For them it doesn't matter what you say. Also if you are dirrect and honest, not everyone will agree with you but you will have a clear conscience and they will know exactly where you stand. Also you can be dirrect without being rude, big difference.

This is one of many of my gray areas.
Due to my work environment, I have to balance between professionalism (which includes a level of political correctness) and keeping good communication with my customers who are plumbers and not generally PC in any way.
Socially or on my own, I also have an interesting mixture. I am somewhat PC regarding race and sexuality. Due to my own appearance and my interactions with minorities have raised my awareness of these issues. That being said, I'm rude, crude and socially unacceptable. I swear heavily, share my opinions freely (whether people want to hear them or not) and joke/talk about any subject matter.
