    B_deserter...

I like the philosophy...I believe there is a "creator" (little c)..but what form that is ..its unprovable.... I just respect the creation as best I can by not screwing it up anymore than i have to to live on this creation called earth...

I too dont believe that whatever form it is...i dont believe that it even cares if we exist or not...much like a bored child with an ant farm he made...tossed aside to exist on its own after a short time from its creation.

I don't believe that creator or god or whatever we choose to call "it" needs or wants to be worshipped....I think religion was created to explain the unexplainable, to make us feel better about ourselves...and for some men to control everyone else....

...(somewhere I posted my version of what you are saying..cant find it now...not even with search)

A hint? Learn to be quiet inside and have no activity related to ones own self current in the mind , no selfish activity at all , only the desire to HEAR God or connect to god for the sole purpose of making the creator pleased ,

Do you really believe this BV, I mean really exactly what are you saying it makes no sense. I can understand where you are coming from and I really do respect that but "GOD" had interacted with humans according to the Bible he left them with no doubt what his will was he gave them a road map his laws to be obeyed without question and all of a sudden he droppes out of sight and requires us to "be quiet inside" "the sole purpose of making the creator pleased" what pleases the creator do you know. Humanity is trying to please the creator by straping on suiside belts and blowing up innocent men, women and children. Does that please him, they think so. Does pleasing the creator mean creating atomic bombs to wipe Israel off the face of the earth please God Iran believes so. What does it mean to please the creator. That is the HINT I would like...

There is a certain kind of beauty and honesty in admitting "I don't know..."

Religion can't ever seem to admit that. How long did it take the Catholic Church to apologize for saying Galileo was wrong about the earth not being the center of the universe, et al?

Although I understand why, I don't think it is right that Science be toooo dogmatic in asserting how we got here. If there is one thing that the 20th century taught us, is that now that Science is free of the shackles of superstitious religious control, there is a lot to learn. So lets learn it, lets not guess it....

I am agnostic. imo, the most honest and best place to be....

I look at the universe and say, so what.I enjoy what's out there, share that joy and when I'am gone, so what.THE END.

    BD,

An atheist deist? Hmmm... I think it is reasonable to be atheist and still understand that this universe had a beginning point. Science deals less with the unprovable 'cause' of the beginning and more with the things that can be examined and for which scientific conclusions can be reached, such as how life developed.

ATJ - it is indeed honest to say "I don't know". Atheists just take things one small step further, and admit that in their estimation, the probability that a god exists (as has been described or imagined by humans) is not enough for belief. I find it refreshing to say "I don't believe". That's not a dogmatic statement, but just an acknowledgement that I find the evidence is too weak for belief.

Take Santa Claus. Should one be an agnostic or an atheist towards good ole' Saint Nick? There have been several stories about him, and there's an infinitesimal chance he exists way up north, but the evidence is too weak. I simply don't believe, so I choose atheism toward Santa.

Pleasing the creator is simple and anyone can do it .The instruction is not hidden it is not about destruction or imposing oneself on others or attempting to pursuade others. Being what you are as a human being, being what you were intended to be , understading your own true inner nature will reveal how to please the creator

You are not getting where I come from , I can tell from the animosity in your post. The world is perfect , all the pain in life is inevitable, all suffering comes from the refusel to accept that death comes to all.

Confused people will do apparently meaningless and vile acts, this is inevitable too.

We are here to gain freedom from the self imposed delusion we all suffer from . We all die . We all suffer. In spite of the seemingly pointless nature of this we are given the task of overcoming hoplessness and growing strong enough to walk on our own , to do right and to grow straight in spite of the millions of reasons we should despair and fail.

We all fullfill the purpose of the creator sooner or later, seeking understanding can only begin when one has cleared the delusion of this world from the mind and seen the self for what it truly is.

    It's very simple.

    1. We are free

    2.We have always been free.

3.The only reason we don't feel free is because we think we are not free

Thats it , experiencing these truths will change everything ,but untill you are ready to give up everything you believe,it won't come to pass

Funny, I was reading your first paragraph and thought I'd point you to that Asimov story, since it seemed relevant. I loved that story, my hubby read it to me one night, it made my heart warm.

When you can stop being so much a part of this world God will give you the hint you desire

nnnNup, I went there. God wasn't there.

To sum it all up, I believe that the universe was created by something eternal.

Why couldn't the universe be eternal? Not this particular one we're in now, but everything outside of it (if there is anything outside of it).

Cause and effect still applies - an earlier version of the universe causes the next version and so on, right up to us.
