Flipper, I too have a wood burning stove and I keep my firewood in the carport. I've been burning wood for decades.

" The society has told us we have to store up 3 days provisions in case we have to leave quickly and leave behind our homes in case of persecution or other things that will come up !"
Jamestown massacre and Kool-Aide mass suicide started on this paranoia. Somehow I believe this case is more like gossip than an order. 3 Day persecution??

I remember in 1972 when I was studying, a woman was asked by her non-JW husband to stock up on some staple food items at the store. She refused and went to the elders. They supported her. It was considered lacking in faith.

Holy CRAP this is weird.
You know, the Mormons have been doing this for decades. Each household has to have enough provisions for everyone in the family for an entire YEAR! Makes you wonder what three days is supposed to do.
Interesting reading on it here:

Thanks for this, Mr. Flipper, this really is just plain weird.
Cheers,

I know state and fed gov has psa's going about doing this too. But someone MUST have made some point about this in a letter/article/tack cause my wife went NUTS with it. Not only is the basement loaded with water and pantry overflowing, but we now have an escape package....thats right we can escape and and have plenty of food for several days, blankets to keep warm, and a first aid kit you could do an apendectomy with. The only problem is that in order to escape I need a college football fullback to put this 58 pound backpack on and run with us!!! I swear this is nuts as we live in an area of no danger except a one in a million forest fire, which means we sure as hell would not "pack out" of there but take the car or truck!!! I lost on all counts of reasoning with her and she bitched that I want to take a gun........geeze.....oompa

Something I don't get: pre-xmas day shopping mad rush. The shops shut for less than 24 hours. We will surely starve.
That said, I do like having solidly stocked pantry, and being able to cook for a week from frozen and dry goods, supplemented by the vege garden. I'm pretty confident we could last a few weeks beyond civilisation.

Well, my parents have been doing this since 1975!
My father always keeps food in the boot of his car incase they have to 'flee to the mountains'! (No mountains round here so don't know where exactly they'd be fleeing to!) The loft and every wardrobe has food stacked in it should Armageddon descend! The freezer is always filled to bursting point!

The storage of food is fine if you use it at some point. Even canned and dehydrated food have a sell by date. Hope all this emegergency food is not going to waste.
Oompa, maybe you should get in there once in a while and give away the food that is going to expire!

She said this, " Son, do you know of a store that sells good dehydrated food, or freeze dried food ? " My son said, " Why do you ask ? " She says, " The society has told us we have to store up 3 days provisions in case we have to leave quickly and leave behind our homes in case of persecution or other things that will come up ! We have been told to store up at least 3 days worth of food ! " My son, shocked said, " I don't think you need to do that Mom ! " She says to him, " Oh! no ! The faithful slave has instructed us to be prepared for anything! We need to do this ! "
She probably got this brainiac idea from the Jan 2008 Craptower study that was posted. Paragraph 18 says:
'In the coming calandar year, it would be well for each one of us to take stock of himself to make sure that every part of our armor is in place and fits well. Our enemy, Satan the Devil, knows our weaknesses and he tries to catch us off guard or to attack a vulnerable spot. We have a wrestling with wicked spirit forces.'
While they don't exactly tell you to start storing food, the insinuation is that something 'Big' is going to come down in 2008 and persecution of the Witlesses is imminent. They've been pulling this crap for so many decades now that it's just like a worn out record-----to everyone except the Witnesses who have so much invested in the cult that they grasp at anything that comes from Crooklyn.
When 2008 passes without incident, this'll be forgotten, just like the crazy idea last year that distribution of their tract about "The End of False Religion Is Near" would usher in the Great Tribulation by the end of 2006. It's all but forgotten now.

Mrs. Witness
Mr. Witness went through a "preparedness" phase last year (about this time, if I remember correctly). We had to stock the basement with canned goods, dried food, and a box of "stuff" to use. He proudly explained the elder call list to me and told me that if there was a disaster that the elders would come looking for us to make sure we were OK. He told me that the elders would also look after my non-JW mom & dad if we wanted to put them on the list.
He even went so far as to call the village police and fire stations to see what the evacuation plans for our town are. I believe most of it stemmed from a pamphlet he received at a Thursday night meeting. It hasn't been reinforced lately, so his furor has died down...
