Ipsec's advice is good. It took me about 9 years from knowing I wanted one to deciding what i wanted it to be, what it symbolised, and where I wanted it. Enjoy the whole experience from the design to the actual having it done and then just enjoying looking at it. I'm going to have the area of flesh mine is on cut and stretched and dried into a bookcover when I die - or maybe a carpet depending on how big I get. lol!

Sometimes at work I get the privilege to see those discreetly placed very private tattoos. In my very small sample of patients, it seems that the more private the placement, especially if the person has it done when they are older and have put a lot of thought into it, the more meaning the tattoo seems to have for the person. It always feels like feels like a privilege when someone tells me about what their "secret" tattoo symbolizes to them.
