Just warped, plainly warped behavior by that parent. So pathetic and childish. Gotta watch out for the Trevors out there, sometimes their thoughtless games have unexpected consequences. W.Once

    Sunspot,

You would have to get an account on my-space and then do a search. If someone has their profile set to "private" then it can only be viewed by people who have been added as "friends".

You can send a friend request if you find who you are looking for. They then have to option to add you to their friend list or deny your request.

HOW does someone find out who HAS their own "Myspace" sites?

You cannot 100% know, sometimes people put their true names in so it makes it easy to find, others such as the ones in the mentioned article can create fake ones.

Also as mentioned, you cannot be sure who you are really talking to.

That's why on mine, although I have all true information it is minimal so people don't know my whole life story from a click of a botton.

Is that what you meant by "HOW does someone find out who HAS their own "Myspace" sites?"

This story is still on CNN this morning.

Ficticious people can be made up online and the law says there is nothing they can do about it.

It is not a crime .........written law, what this adult parent did in making up a boy to show interest in this girl.

And the consequences that happened, the little girls suicide.

But we all know what happened was seriuosly cruel and wrong.

If we keep getting the word out to monitor and use caution (same advice for me) maybe it will help.

I appreciate CNN's continuing to put this story out there.

I havent seen the CNN report yet. I live nearby in Illinois...what a tragedy.

I had a relationship online for 8 months ..using IM/webcam/phone/email. We were supposed to get engaged. I flew to her country with her family to meet her in person. She was who she said she was, but she was not prepared for the reality of the real me standing in front of her at the airport, even though she had seen and heard me. What she was not completely upfront about was the extent of her depression....

...so with online anything..including JWD...is poster beware. I have met some great people here, but I am sure there are a few pscyhos mixed in somewhere. Just be careful.

And if you have kids (I dont)...Dont let them use the internet unsupervised. Even if you cant be there physically to monitor them all the time, you can install software to record what they do....I dont care how "grown" they think they are...and how much they protest that their "privacy" is being violated...they are still kids..minors...children...you as parents have the job to protect them...not cocoon them, not be stifling...but still...protect to the best of your ability. Your kids will get over it.

    They will thank you later.

No laws broken in MySpace-suicide case

No criminal charges filed because none could be applied under current law

    updated 11:27 a.m. CT, Mon., Dec. 3, 2007

ST. CHARLES, Missouri - A prosecutor said Monday he will not file criminal charges in the case of the teenage girl who committed suicide after being bullied on the Internet because no charges could be applied under current law.

The parents of 13-year-old Megan Meier, who hanged herself last year, said her suicide was the result of harassment after she created a profile on the MySpace social networking site.

They have said an adult neighbor fabricated a teenage boy online who pretended to be interested in Megan before he began bullying her. The mother is quoted in a police report as saying she and an 18-year-old employee created the boy's account.

St. Charles County Prosecutor Jack Banas said the fake MySpace page was not created by the mother of one of Megan's friends, as has been reported. He said the page was created by an 18-year-old employee of that mother, though the mother knew about the page.

The messages were being sent by the 18-year-old and by the neighbor's daughter.

The prosecutor's office had been investigating whether any laws were broken or charges could be filed.

The parents of this girl are giving an interview to Star Jones on court TV right now. The girl apparently has been misrepresented in the media, she was not according to her parents a depressed lonely person.

I watched the parents on television - the adult/parent who would so callously treat a child in this way, knowing full well what they were doing was cruel and humiliating, needs to be exposed and needs serious help. It may be legal to create fictional characters but his woman lived on the same street as the kid. She knew exactly what she was doing. The mother of the girl also said that the woman who did this, came to her and asked her to stop all the publicity. The neighbour has never apologized. The hardest part was listening to the parents describe the death of their daughter - she lay on the floor unable to move and the tears ran from her eyes as she lay dying. I wonder though - if this had been a man that were the manipulator of the girl in any way, and the story ended up the same way - wouldn't he have been villified even more? Suffice to say that the parents aren't going to stop until they can get a law passed that will enforce and establish the criteria and sentencing for cyber bullying. sammieswife.

I hope that the FBI keeps an eye on those people so that this doesn't happen to any other children.
