    Yes Eryn,

I never want to be in an emergency situation and be on "E" wondering what the exact mileage or few feet are left in the tank. I know there are some vehicles that will tell you whats left.....but I'd rather be comfortabe knowing I can go anywhere for ahwile and not worry about it. If that needle gets too low I get way too uncomfortable driving.

    I did some research.

It seems it better to fill up when it gets half-full ( or half-empty ).

    I've seen the light!

    Thanks, r.

I'll have to get my excitement some other way.

Barbie Doll drives me crazy, see always has to have her tank full. Last weekend we were driving to our daughters 58 miles away and she had to fill the tank before we leave. We were already an hour late and had to stop to buy 4.6 gallons, that is $15 worth here. The car gets 55 mpg, so we needed 2.1 gallons of gas for the round trip. When we are on vacation, we stop for gas as soon as the tank drops below half. I try to wait until the low fuel light comes on; but, usually don't get to. I guess you never know when you are going to make a 300 mile detour.

I have an 11 galon gas tank and my car gets 30 mpg. So it will go 330 miles before its empty.

I take my pay check every Friday and fill it up. I go 150 miles Friday to Friday, So I keep my tank half full always.

I dont know why someone would run their tank to empty?

If you accidently run it empty you risk sucking dirt into your fuel injector or carb which could be expensive.

Maybe a person who runs their tank to empty doesnt have any money, or its a genetic condition.

We ran out of gas just a couple of weeks ago cuz I trusted the hubby when he said I still had enough gas. I didn't. Luckily we stalled not far from a police station and a very nice policeman with a great smile gave me a ride to the gas station, it was my first time riding in a cop car...in the front seat no less.

Most modern fuel injected vehicles have the fuel pump located in the gas tank

The fuel is actually the lubricant for the pump

Habitually running the tank near empty can easily ruin a fuel pump.

My vehicle's fuel pump is $300 wholesale and over $500 at the dealer.

I would have to be a complete idiot to let it get down to 1/4 full.

I have a buddy who wasted 3 fuel pumps in one year and didn't know why.

Then he mentioned it to me and when I explained what the problem was he said I was wrong because his automobile repair shop had never said anything like that to him.

I told him that he would make the purr fect Jehovah's Witness.

He thought that was a compliment.

The reason men only go to the Empty zone is for the following reasons: 1/ Why don't men put the toilet set down? Same reason - You are a big girl now, you can do it yourself. 2/ We "may" get lucky in the back seat if we do happen to run out of gas. 3/ It limits the amount of distance the women travels to their mother. 4/ It limits you from using your vehicle for rural witnessing or doing calls.

I guess I'm more of a guy like gal. My husband is always carping about my having the tank on 1/4 tank or less. :-)

definitely, i would never let the tank get below half in the winter.... assuming that it is parked overnight......

i will run a tank to the warning light if i am on a trip as i compete with the spouse for mpg...... he is usu the winner.... says i drive my van like it is a race car......

for every vehicle we have ever owned (mr. motorhead has owned easily 2 dozen in the 1/4 century we have been married) there has been a ledger for gallons/cost/mileage/mpg...

he is one guy who does not run 'em empty
