I like to fill up when I reach half tank. I usually just end up riding it all out to empty until I don't think I can make it any farther though.
A Question for those of you who run on Empty gas tanks?

Let's face it. The people who decided just exactly how many miles you can drive once you're "low fuel", "time to refuel" or "stop and get gas you idiot" indicator comes on are GUYS. We know this because if women designed this sytem, their would be no warning, we would just run out of gas.....and at that point a hidden video screen would pop up and there would be our wife/ girlfriend/ or Ethel Mermen standing their with her hands on her hips, pointing her finger, and shouting "Just as I predicted, you never listen to ANYTHING I SAY...AND WHY IS THAT MR. GAS TANK EXPERT!!!!
But see what really happens is that on the newer vehichles there is an extra special super duper late, late, late warning indicator that kicks in once you have gone over 75 miles on E.
R's Hubby (who left the house yesterday in a hurry without his credit cards and the tank already on E, and successfully drove another 80 miles back and forth from work)

I never, ever let the car get below 1/4 of a tank because it is extrememly bad for your fuel pump. I, for one, being a guy, would much rather stop and fill up with gas than have to replace a fuel pump. My wife, on the other hand, tries to get the tank as low a possible so she can make it to Saturday when we usually go out together. Then, she says, "Let's take MY car" so I then have to fill it up with gas. EVERY guy I know lives with the same situation. I had to put 2 fuel pumps in 3 years in my wife's vehicle because of this. I told her that the next time she's getting under there and dropping the fuel tank herself! (Yeah, right!)

The worst is when a person waits until the red light comes on and then only fills the tank 1/3 full.
Putting in 10$ just doesn't cut it anymore! Why are some people unable to catch on to this?

The place I fill up at gives you money back in their local store currency (For Canadians, it's Canadian Tire money. On par with the Canadian dollar in many people's minds)
They have different levels of rewards. The sweet spot is 40.0 litres. Unfortunately, my car has a 48 litre tank, so I need to run it under a 1/4 tank if I want to get a larger bonus.
I use 1/4 tank of gas every day commuting, so the less time I spend filling up the better. -

Aaaahhh yes, Canadian Tire and their bonus coupons! lol
Hubby used to use them all the time (now we have the card that gives you a ten cent discount/litre). Once, when we lived way out in booniesville, we were very low on fuel. He had a coupon. We passed several stations on the way to Canadian Tire. I'm saying, maybe you could stop and get $5. Nope, had to get to Canadian Tire. We ran out of fuel, on the expressway, on the bridge, at the bottom of the hill during morning rush hour traffic . Thankfully he managed to get it going, we babied it up the hill, Canadian Tire was at the next exit. We coasted into the gas station! Not the best way to start your morning!
That being said, you have to let the tank run dry atleast once, so you know how many klicks you get on a tank .

I am a woman and my husband is always getting onto me becuase I run the car until nearly empty. I think it is just plumb lazy. You get going and don't want to stop until you have to.
