Why do Americans call petrol Gas?
My husband on the other hand will go down to the flashing light to refuel!
Can any of you guys explain this for me?
He can't be a He, He's really a she....that's got to be the answer, cuz' I only only of she's that pull this prank.
We (wife and me) never let the needle go too close to empty...Since we initially had old used cars in out firrst years of marriage, we made sure to avoid going on almost empty to avoid having the fuel pump pick up crud and crap from the bottom of the tank...We bought a nice 2007 Mitsubishi Endeavor SE when we moved to Texas, but we still have the same habit.
I have seen that more with the Witlesses than anywhere else. They tend to wait until the last minute to put gas in their cars. I guess they don't want to have their field circus time broken up by a trip to the gas station (which I cannot understand, since they can segue a gas break with a coffee break, or get gas ten minutes after they stopped for coffee).
You might see more gas breaks once the Watchtower Society bans coffee or coffee breaks. They cannot ban putting gas in the tanks because, if someone runs out, it will stall field circus around that block. As for letting it get empty instead of using the opportunity to putter around some more, what do you expect? I don't call them Witlesses for nothing.
Or, maybe they do not want to cough up $3.50 a gallon for gas (I wonder what they would do in countries where gas is more than $5 a gallon and has been for some time).
Every can I have owned has 3-5 gallons in the tank when the gauge reads empty and the low fuel light comes on. My 1995 300ZX has a 20 gallon tank and the most I have ever pumped is 15.5 gallons, that is driving after the light came on for 20 miles. 4.5 gallons will take me over 100 miles, more than enough for 10 any emergency taco runs.

I had a "friend" (I use that term loosely, because she turned out not to be much of one after all) that in the course of one year ran her tank completely dry on at least 3 occasions that I know of. She was basically too lazy to get her butt out and pump the gas!
Repeatedly doing this apparently messed a few things up within the vehicle. Which, of course, was blamed soley on the mechanic's lack of education and ability. (It couldn't possibly be her fault. I mean, the little gas pump light was only on for 30 or so miles, after all! Doesn't it know she's busy?!)
Sheesh!
I just had this conversation with my hubby yesterday. I used his car and had to stop and get gas first, he always has less than a 1/4 of a tank and mine is always 3/4 or full. I don't let my tank go below 1/4, I guess that's why I don't use his car

Guys are smart and like to get there money worth so we drive 15 Miles/Klms to get the cheapest fuel. In Australia fuel this week is $1.44 a litre rip off!!! I fill up on Tuesday when the price for some reason is lowest.
Everybody ain't able! As my mom used to say. I do make my husband keep gas in his handicapped accessible van; but if he ran out of gas, his electric wheelchair will go the distance of 25 miles on a full charge; he has to keep his cell phone charged; and we have roadside vehicle insurance. Now, my daughter, she's always running on empty; and she's got a new car. Makes me mad! I gotta figure out what she's doing with her money!
I have run out of petrol twice in my life. Once I had to rescued with a can of petrol and the second time I was 6 feet away from the petrol pump (nearly judged it right).
I hate filling up while I know there's still one or two journeys left in the tank.
