Simon makes a good point regardless of the thinly veiled sarcasm (or am I wrong about that ?)

Most of the times, I am very sceptical though towards ou Dutchie police ... they tend to focus on road-offenders rather than solving crimes and protecting civilians. So I tend to be doubtful and thinly veiled aggressive towards them.

On few days, when margarita's rule my blood I trust them to turn me in on ... men in uniform with handcuffs ... *sigh*

Having worked in law enforcement, I have found that you can trust them to the degree that you trust other groups designed to protect and assist the public. There have been bad apples. Some areas may bend the laws. But my experiences in general have been positive. I can say that 5 people I worked with were fired for embezzlement but then I have seen that in the business sphere and the political arena.

    HELL NO!

i will automaticly start anything haveing to do with a cop with respect and eagerness.............. but i never trust any of them i dont know.

i was told that someone in my family (marriage) used to make a living selling drugs and then used that money to start legit businesses............... and one time while in florida............. they got stopped for something and had over 100grand in a brief case............... cop took it and told them to get the hell out of town.

they let him.............. thats two crooks reconizeing one another and accepting the situation.

my grandfather was a cop.......... but then a new sheriff came to town and told the ENTIRE department that he wanted their resignations on his desk by the end of the week or he would fully investigate every single on of them................. he got what he asked for. the ENTIRE department had a reputation for being crooks.

fact is if your associateing closely with criminals every single day you are either gonna get hardened toward people in general or its gonna rub off on you. you see the bad guys driving cars you can never afford........... your getting shot at.......... yeah it weighs on you.

personally i have nothing against a cop who picks up things in a drug raid...... as long as its not drugs. for example....... their damn guns........ everyone knows the drug dealers are much better armed than the cops.

i wish that the money they seize could be used to better fund and pay the cops..... problem is............. they could go and frame rich folks just for the bonus lol.

If the police say such and such a thing, do you tend to automatically believe it? No, like Mick said every cops a criminal and all the sinners saints. Everything about the police and government is corrupt starting with the trumped up charges they give to everyone for whatever infraction they commit.

As with all authority - some in it are more experienced and wise to what some are not. Thus some would apply rulings, I suspect, in slightly different and more well informed ways than others. But they have a code to adhere to which may not always coincide with what their expertise tells them. And so it is no guarantee how things will work out. If corruption is within the ranks then further complications are present. It's difficult to know whether trust can be considered an appropriate term. More a case of a provision to reduce conflict for us all which should be respected for doing so! I think the alternative would prove much less respectable!

    Good question.

As a black man, I have what I would call a healthy distrust of cops.

I try to compensate for that by being straight forward and respectful when dealing with cops.

It also helps that I have not committed any crimes other than speeding or traffic voilation.

Cops have a tough job and they make split second decisions that can put their life at risk as well as your own.

Its a job I would never want for my self, so I try to put myself in their position and comply as much as possible.

It is however very distrubing to me that many innocent people have been shot many times by several cops. Where they afraid for their own safety or was there racial prejudice involved? I raise this point because here in the NY area, the victims lately have been black and the cops were predominately white.

I don't have an answer here, but I think that more training in dealing with a crisis situation and a better job of evaluating cops to make sure that the do not have any personal issues that may affect their ability to be objective in a tense situation would make a difference.

I know that black men are not the only people who are affected by bad cops, it just seems that recently the results of these confrontations has resulted in unarmed black men being killed.

Woops...hit enter before I wrote my message.

I got as far as jaguarbass's reply and stopped reading.

My dad was a cop and a damned good one. Everything he told us not to do, he did not do. He was not a hypocrite.

Cops have a horrible job and, unfortunately, lots of times their families pay the price. It is not easy being a cops kid or wife.

Sure there are bad apples, but that is true of any profession. At my dad's funeral, the DA came up to me and said if you

looked in the dictionary under integrity, a picture of my dad should be there.

There was an incident of police brutality in my dad's dept that was witnessed by several cops. Only my dad told the truth at trial and it cost the Lt his job.

So yes, I trust and believe cops. I admit I am predujudiced and biased towards them, But I also conduct myself in such a way as to not have to worry about it.

The people who say ALL cops are bad, etc. are ignorant.
