Do You "Trust" The Police?

I have been a victim of police lies.

I do not like them, to say the least.

Now before anyone comes and says there are just a few bad apples, I say:

YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THE GOOD APPLES DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE BAD APPLES?

HOW ABOUT THE FACT THAT THE GOOD APPLES SIGN OFF ON THE REPORTS THAT ARE WRITTEN BY THE BAD APPLES, KNOWING FULL AND WELL THAT THOSE REPORTS CONTAIN LIES?

THE 90% SIGN OFF FOR THE 10%?

    CRIMINALS...............ALL OF THEM.

Having back ground with police in the family, I say yes until they turn rude then it's badge number, ID, and your supervisors name.

BTW I scared an excop that tried to get smart with me one day. He forgot the excops can't call themselves cops legally. His tone changed quick when I asked him for that info.

I was married to a cop for 15 years, but don't let the fact that he was a controlling abusive husband obscure my answer here. What I do know is, in the US only a 2 year degree is necessary to be a cop and to have to make life and death decisions about force. They have almost no training in psychology, mediation, etc. For some the power goes right to their heads. For others, that really want to make the world a better place, it usually takes about 5 to 7 years until the cynicism and distrust of everyone kicks in. I've seen that happen over and over. Its also one of the professions with the highest divorce rates, and there is a reason for that too.

I heard the bigoted comments too. As long as no one else is around the truth surfaces as to how they really feel. My ex used to make it known there are good people of every race, he just has never met any within a couple of them. They used to tell jokes all the time about minorities, and many of them really hate gays too, at least in parts of the country.

So I agree, if they tell me a bridge is out, I would probably believe them. Otherwise I don't really believe them all that much.

NO, NO, NO, never, they are almost worse than lying elders are!

It has been shown that they are no better than the average person at detecting lies too.

Any thoughts that the police will sort a matter out honestly, is a faint hope to be sure.

I have just had 3 years experience of this, the police are just ordinary people after all.

Police have a difficult job to do and don't get enough respect...sure at times they may lie but I'd rather have them around when I need them.

This is in response to Simon and those that side in with him about my latest "subtle question".

I asked the question because I have been reading about so many Taser attacks by the police and the fallout from those that were either directly affected or by others who have seen all the news articles about such taserings and were appalled by them.

I generally will believe the police in most settings but I certainly know of different situations where the police acted unfairly, inappropriately and illegally. They bend the rules more than some might think.

To suggest that I asked this question because of JWD is starting to border on paranoia. When you make decisions for your board, it is your call. Whether you are correct about every decision that is made is questionable since no one that I know of is 100% correct all of the time. Still, they are your decisions and you are the boss here. Fine....but you certainly aren't God (if you believe in him) and you can't read hearts and know for a certainty everything that you believe to be true. I would suggest that you reconsider making sweeping judgments against me because your perceptions are not always right, as in this case.

After reading this response, you might still believe as you wish. This is something I have no control over. Hopefully, you will understand that not everything said is a shot at you. And if I want to express that you at times are unreasonable, I've said it here before. This thread has nothing to do with you. Now let me get my taser. /......(just a joke.....I'm not threatening you or anyone here, ok??)

    Do I trust the police?

No, I'm Black. Enough said. I work for the police department, but I don't trust them.

I've seen too much and heard too much.

Do I respect them? Yes, when they try to do the right thing. And there are some who do try.

Anyone that works for the police department would be exposed to the understanding that if you "know" someone , you might get outtatrouble. A lot of it is who you know.

So true. I've been here for 8 years and have never asked for a "favor." My daughters have received traffic citations; I've received traffic citations; but I've never tried to have them "fixed." I hate that type of stuff with a passion.

The truth is, I've has many tickets "fixed". One of my dearest friends was a well known cop for 30 years. He recently retired. I had a number of speeding tickets in the mid 1980s that were regularly "taken care of". Now, I simply try to be a better driver.

But I also know of some people that are cops and state officials that have offered to "help" me, if I ever needed their assistance.
