No, Faith is what the vast majority of humanity have; and it is Faith (adherence to beliefs unproven) that is the cause of the vast majority of human problems.

Exactly it is impossible to reason to people with faith, but they are easy to control once you proved to them you are from god or are given authority from him. Why do you think so many dictators, and tyrants appeal to a divine backing for their authority. Once they convince those with faith they are doing gods will they know the faithful will follow them straight to what ever hell they create.

Yes, FAITH is what the vast majority of humanity is lacking, yet, it is only by FAITH that any will inherit the promised kingdom. -Brother Apostate

jwfacts- No, Faith is what the vast majority of humanity have; and it is Faith (adherence to beliefs unproven) that is the cause of the vast majority of human problems. As soon as a person is willing to follow something unproven, then they are prone to having their belief of what is right or wrong manipulated by people that claim to represent God.

Faith is not as you define it. Faith is "knowing" something is or will occur with such conviction as if it has already been. Faith, like logic and reason, requires exrercise. Those who do not exercise faith see it wither and atrophy.

It is important to distinguish what we put faith in- put faith in God, not men, and the dilemna is gone. Do not put your faith in men, and you can not be manipulated by them.

Faith in God is not the cause of human problems, the fallen state of humanity is to blame. God has given us His laws so that we will know right and wrong, something we are capable of, but not, in our fallen state, guaranteed the knowledge of.

Nicoloau - good thought provoking point. If something is inherently good we do not need God to define it as such, which is why Athiests are in practice as moral as religious followers.

As I stated above, not so. What is inherently good and bad is determined by God, not men. Those who put their faith in Him and follow His instructions know what is right and what is wrong, these are unchangable.

Those who choose for themselves what is right and wrong call much of what is right "wrong", and much of what is wrong "right". A rose by any other name smells as sweet, and a pile of dung by any other name smells just as bad.

Distinguishing between them is only possible 100% of the time by obeying God.

BA- Puts faith in God and obeys Him, rather than men.

    PS:

9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

12 "Everything is permissible for me"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food"—but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." [ b ] 17 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit.

18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

    Brother Apostate, where to begin....

Your religious idiocy is matched only by your sense of self importance. As jwfacts correctly pointed out, the "vast majority of humanity" is not 'lacking' faith, rather it is afflicted by it. To claim that the act of child abuse performed by a man - Abraham - upon his son is somehow an ideal to live up to is a clear example of the monstrous effects of religious teaching upon humanity and it's morals.

The man was about to kill his son with a knife for f**k's sake!

A parent is supposed to protect his child from all danger, it's the most basic instinct of all even overriding self-preservation. A parent should die to protect his child. Did Abraham offer to take his son's place? No. Did he try to talk God out of His request? No. Abraham was an unfit father and is certainly not a man to be held up as an example.

He was a pathetic wimp who failed his son miserably, failed himself as a man and failed the most basic test of his character.

Brother Apostate: As I stated above, not so. What is inherently good and bad is determined by God, not men.

Oh right, and because you said it it must be true? In your own head maybe.

Maybe if the Lord didn't work in such mysterious ways everyone could then have the same basis of understanding. What I mean is this:

It seems like the Bible stipulates a contract between men and God. If men do not honor the agreement, then they forfeit and pay with their lives. Yet, the Bible is ambigous about the terms of the contract, the fine print. God can interpret it any way He wants, He can change the agreement at any time, and He can even change the terms of payment when it is obvious that a violation has occurred.

If human society functioned as the Bible portrays God as functioning, there would be nothing resembling order, fairness, or equal justice.

I am not saying this about the deity, but about the way the diety has been explained in the bible.

Just another proof that Jehovah is a tyrant. Doing things just because He says so is going to stop a person from making mistakes and learning from them. It is also going to stop people from making independent decisions that are going to improve mankind.

It is better to have the mindset of the independent person, or of Satan the Devil. Rationally, what was wrong with Adam eating that apple? Absolutely nothing. Why? What if he wouldn't have eaten it? Who would have been deprived of it? Who was supposed to have eaten it? Or, perhaps it would have just rotted and gone to waste? In that case, there was nothing wrong with just going ahead and eating it.

Additionally, Jehovah has destroyed civilizations simply because they created value in the past. This happened in the pre-flood era when people were doing normal things, minding their own business, and took no note of some Almighty Baghead that wanted them to sacrifice (i.e., waste) some or all of their goods to Him. So He had Marfan's syndrome and destroyed them all--for refusing to waste some of their time and energy on Him.

What about the Canaanites? From what I know about them, all they were guilty of is creating commerce. Which would have benefited society. But, that almighty Bully couldn't have had that. So, He had His people kill them because He didn't want them to learn business. This happened in Sodom and Gomorrah too. (Why else were they prosperous?) And the nations around Israel were attacked simply because Jehovah didn't want His people to learn to create value.

To me, there is nothing to gain by obeying God. Where is the reward? To be a minus infinity to the opposite sex, and even worse for obeying God? That is supposed to be a reward? And what about all the money and time wasted supporting churches and Kingdumb Hells that encourage even more sacrifice? The worst is to support the Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund boxes found in the Kingdumb Hells. (Hopefully, with this week's Comments You Will Not Hear, people will click on the Zero Dollar Bills and Void Checks and donate those instead of real money).

    BA,

Faith is not as you define it. Faith is "knowing" something is or will occur with such conviction as if it has already been. Faith, like logic and reason, requires exrercise.

Interesting to see that you redefine the meaning of 'faith', which every dictionary will tell you that in a religious sense it means an unquestioning belief that does not require proof or evidence, into something Watchtower shaped.

As nicolau notes, your post is so filled with logical fallacies that one does not know where to start. Here is an example:

It is important to distinguish what we put faith in- put faith in God, not men, and the dilemna is gone. Do not put your faith in men, and you can not be manipulated by them.

You have found your "God" through the use of the Bible, agreed? The Bible was written by men. Therefore you have put your faith in the words of men. That the Bible tells you it was written by God requires of you belief without proof or evidence, ie. faith.

Logic is such a beautiful thing is it not?

    Nicolaou,

Only an idiot could possibly read "child abuse" intro the Abraham- Isaac account. Isaac was never harmed, or abused during the test. Whether Abraham passed or failed the test, Isaac’s safety was assured, as God always does what is right, it is impossible for Him to do otherwise.

The point is this- Abraham was blessed by God for putting FAITH in Him, and as a result, all who put faith in God are the "children of Abraham" who inherit God’s kingdom.

All the mockers and scoffers just don’t get it- FAITH must be exercised in God, His son, and the redeeming power of His son’s ransom sacrifice to inherit God’s kingdom.

BA- Has Faith in God, His son, and the redeeming power of His son’s ransom sacrifice.

PS- "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." – Hebrews 11:6

This just made me think of the "tree of life" and for any who haven't seen it, The Fountain is a great movie regarding said tree. Personally, I loved it, a little heady I suppose for those who aren't into symbolism. Who's up for finding the tree of life and blowing the lid off this death thing? hehehe

    HS,

As I'm sure you are aware, I believe that the Bible is God-breathed, that the men who wrote the Bible were scribes who wrote God's thoughts.

BA- Faith is a beautiful thing, isn't it?
