    > When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me."
    > For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone

    know your bible:

genesis 22:1 "And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am."

samuel 24:1 "And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah."

matthew 6:13 "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil"

    Really, Burn?

...let's take a look at the Bible, shall we....

    Exodus 20:20
Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning."

    Ecclesiastes 3:18
I also thought, "As for men, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals.

    Exodus 16:4
Then the LORD said to Moses, "I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.

    Isaiah 48:10
See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.

    Jeremiah 6:27
"I have made you a tester of metals and my people the ore, that you may observe andtest their ways.

    Ezekiel 21:13
" 'Testing will surely come. And what if the scepter of Judah , which the sword despises, does not continue? declares the Sovereign LORD.'

    Psalm 26:2
    Test me, O LORD, and try me, examine my heart and my mind;

It's NO WONDER that christians imagine a testing god.

God says right there, that he tests and tests and tests again, obviously because he does not know the outcome.

    Oh yeah, ''free will''....

that makes it impossible for God to to know wether or not His slaves, I mean servants, will obey him or not

Obviously god is not as powerful as he makes himself out to be, there are just as many scriptures stating NOT to put god to the test.

Why the hell not? God can't take puny humans testing him? Is he afraid to fail??

Is he such a cowardly emotional god that a human testing him will....what.....?

Make him have a big temper tantrum where he kills 50,000 humans at once?

tsk tsk, someone needs anger management

    Free Will.

    Burn

Ah the free will argument. You see free will is B.S. according to the bible you sin even if you do not want to sin so if you are forced to do some thing against your will, well that is not free will now is it? Now you can say "well Adam and Eve were not sinners so they had free will" well that's what the myth says but the rest of us do not have this free will so how can we be judge for what we do? Now you can say " that's were Jesus sacrifice steps in" why is his sacrifice necessary, why not simply create a universe were "sin" is not genetic? One more question about free will. If the chosen ones are reserected in haven incorruptible, does that mean they have no free will?

And this, among other things, is why I have examined a variety of beliefs. Some, like myself, believe that bad and good things occur in the natural ebb and flow of life. Whether one believes in a personal god or higher power, there is something to be said for nature. If it makes someone feel better to think of it as a test, so be it. You know a lot of people hate for something to go UNEXPLAINED. Know what I mean?

I was just about to land a can of bible whoop a$$ on Burn about the christians don't believe God tests them comment, but ya'll bet me to it. The "god" of the bible LOVES to test, torment and push his servants all in the name of his own inferiority complex. If you really loved me, would you do this? or this? how bout this???? Reminds me of a comedy skit or something. I can see Kramer playing God.

Well the bible says he wont allow you to bear more than you can handle, and for me that rings true. I have had alot of negative things happen to me in my life, some people would chalk it up to bad luck, I believe that he has allowed me to experience these things for a reason.

Read my Biography. I prayed to god through most of that crap, I got through it yet it was way more than my young mind could handle. It made me the mess I am today.

Looking at just some of the texts, all I can say is it is sloppy and dishonest. It looks like all you did on some of these is post something with "test" or "tempt" that would appear on first blush to confirm your thesis. Do you even care if it is accurate or not or do you just want to "win"?

    Example:

Jeremiah 12:3Yet you know me, O LORD; you see me and test my thoughts about you. Drag them off like sheep to be butchered! Set them apart for the day of slaughter!

This is not the "test" that my post (or James) alludes to.

    Exodus 20:20
Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning."

Look up the passage in Exodus. Is God testing them through an evil act? No.

Without attempting exegesis of every text you have barraged me with, here is entire thought in James 1 (which I should have done from the start):

And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.

God does not do wrong to anyone. That would be contradictory. If God did wrong he could not be God. The things spoken of in Scripture as tests, proofs, or temptations (the greek word is peirasmos, trial, test) from God are things God has allowed rather than caused to happen as a result of people’s sins. God does tempt/test/prove people in the sense that he allows them to encounter temptation or adversity, but he himself does not cause these things.

In the same chapter of James:

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

If God allows a test it is because it is for our ultimate good. We have a hard time understanding this at the moment.

. according to the bible you sin even if you do not want to sin so if you are forced to do some thing against your will, well that is not free will now is it?

I could certainly agree with you in that my will is "constrained". Free will is relative. I may want to defy gravity, but that would not prevent a major mess on the asphalt if I stepped off the ledge now does it?

I have read it. My heart goes out to you 5go. Its awesome that you even got through it. Hopefully, you can get the "mess" cleaned up with time.

you like to evade the real stuff, don't you? according to chronicles god did test david - the parallel in kings even mentions an evil spirit/devil that god sent. he also tested abraham if he'd kill his son, which in my mind seems evil (christians probably have another sense of morals though).
