I avoid library books. If I can afford to buy even a used book I prefer it to a book that 150 people have sneezed on and of course someone always has to wipe a booger on a page while reading. I've never understood that.
I feel exactly the same way! I also think about the fact that people read books while sitting on the toilet...

I just bought the "portable atheist" tonight. I am looking forward to reading it. It seems to be various articles and essays compliled to pitch the atheistic point of vew. It has artilces by Darwin, Dawkins and Sagan to name a few.
I consider myself agnostic, and doubt I will be an atheist after reading this work but I like and want to be well read.
Then depending on ones deffinition of atheist, I may be an atheist. I dont believe in the bible. But lean towards design verses random evolution. And I feel that way after reading origins of Species and Sagans Dragons of Eden. And after spending years at the EVC forum.
Some other books not so heavy that you might enjoy. This year I read "On the Road" and Dharma Bums" by Jack Kerouac. I read on the road twice because It is a classic and I wanted to absorb its essence.
"Hells Angel by Sonny Barger if you want to see in the mind of the leader of the Hells angels
The 12th planet if you want to read a theory based on Summarian Pictographs regarding mans origens, along the lines of Chariots of the Gods. Some what laborious reading by the topic and material and the points being made were of interest. I would like to see him write a condensed version of his research.
I read "Life is So Good" By George Dawson who died at the turn of this Century. He lived to be like 103. Learned to read maybe when he was 95. He was the grand son of slaves. It was very inspiring and uplifting to read. I suffer from depression and to read a book by a man who had a life far more difficult than mine say life is so good. I had to read it twice.
"The Tao according to willie." By willie Nelson. I enjoyed it.
John Sanford "Silent Pray and rules of pray Good police who done it mysteries. He has like 16 books. I plan to read them all if I live that long.
I plan on living a long time. I have a lot of books I want to read.
I also would suggest reading "Children of the Matrix" by David Icke He puts a different tint on the things we learned in the Wac tower.

hortensia:
have you tried buying used books on amazon.com
I am addicted to Amazon... I see lots of books listed for 1 cent (but $3.99 shipping)...they list it that way to avoid paying commission... lots of used paperbacks that way..
...also check out your local library..often they will have book sales....

On the Road and Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac.
Agreed! Great reading, both of them. Depending on my mood, I sometimes answer that On the Road is my favorite book of all time. Just some of the time though.

You know what I'm probably going to do. I'm probably (read definitely) going to go to the used book store tomorrow and see if I can snag it for cheap. The first two books were soooooooooooooo amazingly well written that I'm sure not wanting to deviate from that series yet.

I rarely find fiction that is written well enough to keep my interest. The last fiction book that could keep my interest was Where the Heart Is. Before that, not including adolescent books on audio, which Julian and I enjoyed several last year, the last book I was able to read was Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.
I read a lot of non fiction books. I am told the Mitford series is excellent though. Maybe if life ever calms down enough for me, I will read it.
