    I Want to Tell You

I was always more into heavier stuff like Zeppelin, Hendrix and Black Sabbath.

But right now I'm working with a friend on showcasing a set of his original material and we're doing 2 or 3 covers. One of them is the Beatles tune: I Want to Tell You. I'm compositing the guitar riff and the piano parts on guitar.

00DAD - I hear you. I really like Led Zeppelin & Hendrix as well. Have most of their music. So you're doing a cover of the Beatles Harrison's song " I Want to Tell You " ? Should be interesting ! If you get a chance post a link if you have a you tube. Would love to see it . Or listen to it if you just have an audio link. Good luck

Of course, all those classics like Eleanor Rigby, Michelle, etc....

    But, I also like

    "When I'm 64"...

And a song dedicated to all of you on JWN - "With a little help from my friends."

I love them all. On my long ride, I listen to the same cassett (not the artist, the thing with tape) over and over again. I sing too.

I've always loved the high vocal harmony of Paul on this song combined with John's lower vocal

As I posted before, I am big fan. When the Beatles represented a certain counterculture (mostly middle class college students), I found it more fun to be a fan. They never plastered themselves all over the place the way Elvis did. Any appearance in the US was a special treat that the nation talked about for weeks afterwards. I do feel they lost something on their way to sainthood. The Beatles conglomerate is so commercial and establishment now.

I loved seeing Paul perform at the White House and win the Library of Congress medal for American music. Strange that a Sir Paul wins. My personal preference was when they had an edge and their music was fresh. I'm not switching groups at this point. The Stones and the WHO are major establishment groups now. I used to go to the Filmore East. It was a tiny theatre. Greenwich Village was a shrine to me b/c I could get Beatles posters and shop in stores that blasted Dylan and Sgt. Pepper's endlessly. Blue jeans denoted your political and music choices.

I am curious how other people feel. When they first arrived in America, people acted as though civilization were ending. Has anyone ever read about this transformation?

BAND ON THE RUN- In watching the remaining Beatles ( Paul, George, & Ringo ) in 1995 explain about their first coming to America in the anthology series on DVD in their own words- they said that people in America AND the rest of the world got into the Beatles " mania " and the only peace they had was in their hotel rooms or the restroom. George was quoted as saying that, " the world was going mad, and they used US as an excuse to go mad. " He continued, " We were the calmest out of everybody- like in the eye of the hurricane , while everybody else was going crazy. "

It was also mentioned that with John F. Kennedy just having been shot in November 1963, that America was really primed, or ready for a healing type of spirit to come make them feel better. Especially young people. So the timing couldn't have been any better when the Beatles stepped off that plane in New York in February 1964 to put out healing music to the masses.

Although it was viewed as healing to young people- parents at that time looked at the Beatles music as rebellion towards society , especially JW parents or religious parents. Mrs. Flippers parents were Catholic, her dad was VERY strict and threw her Beatles and Hendrix albums out without her permission ! Older society looked at The Beatles as a " threat " while the younger society looked upon them as " Messiahs " or " saviors ". Just my 2 cents
