Mind control does that to people.
They use projection and transference. They prey on the weak, largely otherwise normal people who have become temporarily adrift financially or socially, people with emotional handicaps, histories of neglect, abuse. The children of JWs, perfectly poised to otherwise have a normal human experience, fall as much into this category of the sick, the weak, the old, the cullable, as do the JW's primary target market of the low-income. The main currency in their belief system is not cash, which would be a cynical observation from an external reference, but insight. Insight is, in their world, better than cash. It exceeds all worldly goods in value. Nevermind that this insight is a completely manufactured product from start to finish. If anyone has played Second Life, there is a virtual currency called "Linden". It is bought with real cash and has value primarily within that particular virtual world in which people have invested their limited resources of time. JW insights are the currency within their virtual world and have no value outside of that world. (By insights I am talking about things they uniquely claim to be theirs (blood, flag, holidays), and not common religious sentiment.) The main thing these lions look for is signs of helplessness, a broken wing, flailing, signs of struggle. When they spot this behavior they set up an encirclement by bringing additional "new faces" to the bible study so that the prey feels they have additional escape routes from their struggle. I'll stop blending this metaphor here by admitting that there is no one point where the lion "pounces" for the kill, except that they will compel you to "take a stand" against some stupid thing or other as a test of your investment in their currency of insights. Reduce the factors and deduce their motivation: They do not *care* about your money. The production values of their products are bargain. If they wanted money they'd go work harder or educate themselves. No. They want your emotional investment in their currency of insights to bolster the worth of their own investment in that currency. It's a pyramid. They vampirize others because their self-doubt about being in the organization motivates a flight response but doesn't know how to flee. The flight response is turned inward by having the drones/rank-and-file chase people who are "fleeing to God's kingdom".
Hmm, I really think that the whole mind control thing is used mostly as a way for US to excuse our past behavior and to kinda say ‘hey it’s not my fault I did this, I was brain washed” in my opinion it’s a cop-out.

MINIMUS- For all the readers of your thread . The truth about the alleged " truth " Jehovah's Witnesses call " the truth " . The Watchtower society has covered over child abuse for years and continues to do so. They have settled out of court child abuse cases with young witness victims for millions of dollars the last year , keeping this information hidden from rank and file members . Only through the news media can Jehovah's Witnesses be informed this has happened. Also many children and others have died due to being prevented, wrongly so from getting life saving blood transfusions which they are wrongly told violates God's laws on blood. Just a couple short examples. Please do research people to verify what I'm saying
I have to disagree Lola, especially because so many of us were raised in it. You can not raise a child from birth saying "the sky is the color green" and not expect them to believe it, at least for a time. I don't put a lot of blame on people for growing up seeing truth in something and believing it... and I don't hold them individually accountable for holding beliefs that they were taught as fact. That said, I do think a time comes when you do become responsible as an individual for not facing the world and listening to varying messages and using your own logic and reasoning. if you spend your entirety covering your ears and screaming "no, the sky IS green!!!" then yeah, at that point I do put some of the weight on the individual.
ONLY people who believe that they're really pleasing God will ignore their friends and the only family they have. When a JW becomes baptized, blood ties become less important. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. It's not just the fault of the person who's in the cult. Even "weak" JWs will not take blood and they haven't a clue why they're dying. They accept the "Slave" over their lives! Who the hell's "The Slave"???
I don't think any reasonable person is going to deny that mind control exists somewhere, sometimes. The question is whether or not that is what is going on with the members of the WTBTS. Is that correct? So maybe it is a good start to figure out what the framework of mind control is, or rather the characteristics that are exhibited when one is under the influence of mind control.
After researching those qualities, the way information is fed to potential converts gradually, and the alienation of those in "the world" and the growing perception that they are the enemy.....doesn't it seem that many of those methods and results are strikingly similar to mind control techniques and results?
However this may sound, please know Lola that I am not trying to single you out. It's just that in considering your comment, I also wondered how you personally view the fellow Witnesses around you in terms of control they might have over you. As an example, how willing would you be to share with them the fact that you post on this type of forum? I am not passing judgment and am not even suggesting that you should or should not disclose that to anyone at all. I have no idea if you are even a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses or not. But I do know just from my brief time around them that I never encountered one single person who would be willing to admit to their fellow members that they were having doubts about the Society in general. And I feel very confident that to admit that they frequented online sites like this one would put their membership in jeopardy.
It just seems that when the type of "truth" that is being dispensed is so fragile and could potentially be so easily destroyed by "apostates who are just angry they got kicked out".....doesn't it make sense that the only thing that would keep them held that tightly together in spite of that fragility, would be some form of mind control? In other words....if their "truth" itself is so easily crushed...what is it that keeps them believing?
Pickled, I'm glad you're here!
"The Truth" is profoundly wrong. Sorry, I left my imagination at home today.
