Thank you Quietleaving, but as a former potential convert and never having been a JW, I have no idea what you mean. Can you elaborate and possibly include how you felt about what you did in fact believe?
To potential converts, Jesus and God still represents their creator who loves them. What method did you use to convey to them that these two loving supreme individuals were at the brink of killing them without sounding as though that was something that you were all in favor of?
What did you say when potential converts expressed a look of alarm upon finding out that you are so friendly, and yet completely comfortable with the idea that they will be violently destroyed and you will be spared?
How did you truly feel about the way THEY felt about that?

I observe that a great many JW's seem to be very unhappy people. The constant negative teachings about the 'wickedness' & depravity in the world makes the average JW feel very insecure & unsettled. Who to trust, who to speak to, etc, etc. Add to that the fact that they are even suspicious of each other. It doesn't make for a healthy outlook. The 'do more, do more' mentality is another factor in people being unhappy & depressed. Even when I speak to JW's now, I am astounded at their negativity toward most things in life. I was never really happy as a JW. When I left I became more satisfied with my role in life. That is worth the hassle of leaving the org. 2 years ago i was going through a tough time leaving the org. Now, it seems a million miles away. Happiness reults from leaving the ultra negative WTS.

I always center on facts----not just feelings. Persons in an abused relationship might stay with a person or group because that's all they know. They're USED to getting hurt and abused.
When I think only about FACTs, I cannot dismiss the truth of a matter. It Is what it IS.

Go back in your own mind and imagine how some things may have been without it!
It isn't just JWs but most organised religion in my experience.
If I had a wish it would be I had grown in a non jealous free sharing free thinking social group and network and could now see my family doing similar!
Pipe dream of mine!!

Being a JW makes a person with low self esteem feel special.....at least in the beginning. Then it's all GUILT!

Could U Please Cite Some Personal Interesting Observations About The Truth?
Some personal observations:
1. Truth is truth, once and for all. Truth cannot change.
If information is presented as truth and is later changed, then what was previously truth is now a lie. Example: If the truth was that the generation that saw 1914 would live to see Armageddon, then anything taught that contradicted that would be a lie. If the definition of the generation changed so as to discredit what was once believed, did we not then previously believe in a lie?
2. Not all beliefs or doctrines that fall under the scope of being in "The Truth" can be backed up by the Bible. Even though JWs claim that all their doctrines/practices/beliefs are Bible-based, many of them have no basis on the writings in the Bible, or, have been miscontrued or misapplied.
Example: Birthdays. Nowhere in the Bible are birthday celebrations condemned or even discouraged. But to JWs celebrating birthdays is as bad as celebrating Halloween (another misunderstood holiday). How is it "truth" that God hates birthday celebrations?
Gambling. Condemned and also a DFing offense. Nowhere in the Bible is gambling condemned or prohibited. How is it "truth" that gambling is hated and condemned by God?
Blood transfusions. The prohibition of eating blood for the Hebrews and then the prohibition of abstaining from blood of things sacrificed to idols is twisted and convoluted to prohibit the life-saving practice of blood transfusions in major trauma cases.
The door-to-door work. Again, misapplied scriptures to try to guilt followers into a practice today in order to spread their message. How is it "truth" that God requires martyrdom or child sacrifice to prove our faith to him?3. "The Truth" is a buzzword used by the religion to distinguish themselves from the rest of the world. One of many practices that point to this 19th century religion as more cult than a true religion.
4. "The Truth" teaches its diciples that its okay to lie to protect other adherents of The Truth or the leadership of the group.

I also noticed, as many others have, that the publications have satanic images in them .The WTBTS claims to be spirit directed and not inspired but the dictionary says to be inspired is being directed .They for awhile did not even call themselves christian but spiritual jews and that is still how they look at the great crowd prospects since they won't enter the covenant at the memorial supper.

Anyone who has time for a JW might consider using an equal amount of time performing a Google search on the following terms: "evolutionary psychology" and "costly signaling". Religion has always and will always have an evolutionary purpose of increasing cooperation and community between suitably vetted participants, while constructing a binary dichotomy against non-participants and abjecting onto non-participants the most vilified components of the participants' actual, whole selves. This constructed dichotomy facilitates, rationalizes and exonerates the securing of resources from non-participants by deceit and by violence, two methods held in the most extreme reserve by rank-and-file when dealing with fellow rank-and-file, or explained as necessary prerogative if used by elite participants on rank-and-file. So, everybody wins except the non-participants. Religion's advantages are only superceded if the individual investor can find them elsewhere for cheaper. The First World happens to live, for the last few decades at least, with free energy, and this has dramatically extended First World life expectancy beyond those where the evolutionary advantages of religion were most required. (Of course, no one who was religious in the era of living-till-60 really deeply appreciated that they were making cold survival calculations when they stuck with the church of their forebears, which is the often seamless beauty of religion.)
But, however attractive religion can be when used by evolution to get humanity up out of one rocket stage and into another, JWs are completely, utterly, off the rocking chair.
