A friend just informed me that the C/O in his hall will be instructing the elders that anyone with a child in college will be stripped of privileges in the hall. I am not sure if this is true this is just what I was told. It could be that it is only a campaign directed at him as he has some ties to ex-JW's and some how got found out. I hope this isn't true.
Big News or rumor!

Besides other sources on this board who had already heard of this, this information has been confirmed by a current ministerial servant who was on the conference call on Saturday evening: Any elder or ministerial servant who is going to college will no longer qualify. And if their children are going to college, they will no longer qualify, and if they speak of college in a positive way, they will no longer qualify.
Amazing! WTS continues to prove to be the cult it really is.

Burger Time,
Interesting. I have a brother-in-law who is a ministerial servant in Monroe North Carolina.
I guess he better not even think of going to college , to better himself.

The rumor mill is always alive and active in the JW world. I guess it give the rank-n-file something to think about during the exciting meetings at the KH. :)
I don't think the rumor is true, but it would be great if it was. That's the kind of stuff that awakens more than a few to start thinking again. -

I spoke with an MS the other day. They said it depends on if the elder feels that you need to go to college to basically survive you won't get your privileges taken away. If they feel its not absolutely necessary to go to college then you can get your privileges taken away. There are plenty of loopholes for those that want to go to be able to...

This news is incredibly over the top. I went to college for 4 years as a JW. It was looked upon somewhat askance, but it sounds like they are really putting the thumbscrews down now.

As I see it, it was fairly confirmed. And it appears that they are going to put college in the same light as masturbation and porn--of course, there are always going to be those who distort the instructions and do not follow through consistently.
I wouldn't be surprised if they make any education past high school a judicial offense. That means, if you are at work and they have a class that is pertinent to the job, the hounders might see it as "college" and act accordingly. I can see a lot of people on Welfare and food stamps, still living with their parents in their 40s and 50s.

As for putting the pursuit of a college education in the same category as masturbation and pornography, I have to say that I agree with the Organization on this point because - whereas a B,A. or an M.A. may not necessarily be all that useful in obtaining a good job and achieving the "American Dream" - it certainly is fun doing it!!! In that sense, it could be that porn, masturbation, and getting a B.A. are all pleasant amusing goals in and of themselves, irrespective of any ultimate, "practical" purpose. In regard to all three, the pleasure is in the process itself. The proverbial destination is the "train trip" itself, as it were.
